DIY have you fitted a milltek? if so please read!!!

can anyone please help? i have just managed to bag my self a bargain on ebay, full milltek exhaust with manifold for £390 and a bit more on gaskets and such. the only problem is now its fitted is the tips seem to touch the rear valance and they rattle on tick over. i havn't driven it yet as i am also getting it colour coded so don't know what its like to drive. the exhaust came with nothing else but the brackets which bolt on to the rear silences. has anyone bought a new one? and if so can they tell me what came with it. i think the problem is with the rubber mounts? not sure if these are supposed to be longer some how? please help i am itching to go for a drive have had to borrow my girlfriends 306 for the past month and its not quite a mini LOL p.s the cars a cooper S IF THIS MAKES A DIFFERENCE?

if you have the aero kit it will rest on the pipes.

there is a separate part to the aero kit which is a bracket which fits on the standard exhaust system and rear bumper.

as the milltek is not standard there is no fitment for this bracket and yes the milltek will rub.

Shouldnt cause too much problems

i have the same vibrating noise on idle too

annoying but hey ho

i only have the aero side skirts, and i can't beleive that milltek would design them and just let them rub, i have seen vids and pics of other MCs and they don't rub

Can the garage fitting not get some slightly different hangers, ie slightly longer or modify them somehow?

If it continues to rub go to your local garage (Not dealer) and get them to fit a bigger rubber bracket (This is what holds the exhaust bits on) this will solve the problem for you!!

Hi I Just Had Milltek Fitted To My Cooper,my Problem Was The Opposite Because My Car Was An 01 Plate The Exhaust Was To Low, I Took My Car To Milltek And They Told The Earley Models Had Different Floor Pans To The Later Models They Had 2 Back Last Week, Contact Milltek Direct They Had To Weld A New Bracket To Resolve The Problem.

I just had a cat back Miltek system from Lohen for my Cooper, which hung about 4 inches lower than it should, what I have since found out is that BMW at certain stages changed thing for approx 6 months of production and then changed them back, but because they won't release any chassis No's. to clarify which minis have which changes it's a bit of a lottery. The boot floor was different on mine so the standard brackets on the back box were all wrong. However, Miltek were brilliant and booked me in and completely re-gigged the brackets for a perfect fit, they also did a full check on the rest of the, exhaust to check I had fitted it correctly, it took a couple of hours and now its perfect, and what a difference it makes, That massive weight that its felt like I've been dragging behind the car has gone. I have now fitted a Green filter induction kit and that has made it even better, loads more low down torque. I'm now considering a chip upgrade and was thinking of a Bluefin but thats only 10bhp when MTH are offering 20bhp increase for 100 quid less than the Bluefin.

As long as you specify which year it was built in and model they will make one to you requirements. If you dont send any specs they will give you the latest system that is out with the brackets to fit on the new model as well.

Just wanted to let you no that I have got my Milltek exhaust rattle fixed. In the end I booking it in with Milltek based in Nottingham (Derby) who realigned it. The basic problem was that the end tail pipes were sticking out to much. The new set up has the tail pipes much nearer closer in so that the Milltek logo is just visible. The other advantage is that the exhaust note now sounds a lot better ( I now understand why this system is so highly rated…… I was a little under whelmed before).

Overall now very happy.… pity AMD did not fit it correctly in the first place.

Cheers

have you had a look at it once you have been on a long drive? my tail pipes stick out a further 1.5 inch so you can clearly read the logo when its cold there hardly visable!
