Offline | Removal of 135 mph cut off Has anyone figured out how to remove electronic speed cut off. Is it in the software or ingnition system. MCS's in Europe run to 163, what's their secret. |

Offline | I've had my MCS right at indicated 140 mph on a straight and level section of the Autobahn. It got there relatively quick, but it didn't seem as if it would do much more, as the motor was spinning near redline. That's when I found out my car had the dreaded wind noise leak in the windshield. Incredibly loud, starting at around 110. I've since had MINI reseal the shield, but haven't been out to test it now that my winter tires are mounted. 2005 MINI Cooper S2007 BMW 530i SMG on order1997 Ducati 748 (sold )Scuderia Ferrari WILL be back in 2006!!! |

Offline | Well, I was curious about this too . . . I could be wrong but my "education" has taught me that all American cars have a "governor" that will not allow you to drive over a certain speed. However, since I passed my break-in this week I did make a road trip and pushed it to 120 mph, and it didn't cut out, but I do agree - I was going uphill but was hitting over 5 - close to redline just not quite there yet and backed off. I was surprised that the car itself didn't limit my speed. Ahh . . . the joys of the German autobahn!!!! So I was wondering if the MINI actually does have a speed governor?!! |

Offline | lol the minis top speed (cooper s) is between 136 and 143 mph as engines do differ a small ammount and the 05 uk plate are 170 bhp as well but when the rev limiter is hit be it cooper, one or 'S' the engine will ease you off so you are not buring the linits of the gear box as it happens in all gears ![]() confusion, madness and disorder .............. my work here is done |

| MINI2 Senior | Apart from a rev limiter I have not heard or read anything about the Mini having a speed limiter. I recently hit 136mph (two up, full tank of fuel and weekend bags) in Germany too and at around 5k revs, I think it would have done over 140 had I not had to slow down for traffic. 163 seems a little optimistic - though maybe with half a tank, downhill and with only the driver - oh and a near gale up the chuff!! ![]() |

Offline | I've gotten my S to 130 at revs just under 5 with a full tank of gas traveling on a slight incline. It felt as if the car could do way more, but I got a little freaked out and backed off the accelerator. It was quite a thrill, but because I was on a toll road that runs parallel to bumper to bumper freeway traffic, I couldn't shake the thought of possibly having a blowout, which, at 130, would send my car hurtling into traffic possibly killing a bunch of people, myself included. When I had my Cooper, I topped out at 123 at 5 revs but only because I had the same feeling of doom. I'm sure it would have done much more. I'm a scaredy cat ![]() |

Offline | your onto something there, the new cars are limited to 143mph......as far as I can tell (tested against and older car that will pull off the clock) remapping the ecu seems to get rid of this problem ![]() but the gearing on the new cars is gonna limit the top speed a lot, i've been quite close to the rev limiter in 6th gear a few times now ![]() |

Offline | I've seen just under 150 on the clock of my S (GTT 220). Aint it wierd how you look at the big speedo rather than the digi one when you are flat out on an italian autostrada with a couple of Works ones trying to catch you That was in 6th and just over 6K revs + slightly uphill so possibly had a bit more to go. Suppose that equates to about mid 140s for real, which sounds about right for 220 bhp S ![]() Somebody mentioned to me recently that its actually faster in 5th? Is this true? If so, I might just have to go back to Italy ![]() Anyway Rick, if you got yours past 150 your ears would probably explode ![]() ![]() ![]() |
