Dyno Results

With 1500 miles on the odometer, my Cooper S pulled 162 at the wheels. Hows THAT for drivetrain loss? I'm not really believer in dyno pulls for numerical values. Its more for behavior trends in my opinion but I know theres some on this board who feel differently. I'll post the graphs as soon as I have them.

Other interesting tidbits:

- dyno set off the abs, flat tire monitor, and DSC lights
- they cleared themselves after driving about 50ft

- the speedo sensor must be off the rear tires because the speedo never moved and the trip computer registered 0.

- removing the exhaust from the catback created a huge difference in .......

I'll save that for next time

What's the most accurate conversion to get flywheel figures?

ALso, the S and Cooper will loose different ammounts I assume, as they have different gear boxes etc.

Sound. The exhaust sounded great but was unbearably loud with the catback removed. The curves were nearly identical with the catback piping unbolted (compared to stock). Everyone held their ears during the dyno runs as it sounded like the minions of hell were being released from the tailpipe. I'm not sure this means anything yet but its an interesting observation. We'll see where it goes with a new exhaust.

BTW, both cars were running rich. Macncheese's S ran very rich with the exhaust off. My guess is that the ECU was confused with the front tires spinning and the rear not. The speedometer gets it's info from the rear.

you think that the ecu knew that the exhaust was off? or the ecu knew that the back wheels werent spinning? either way that would be kinda weird for the ecu to compensate by spitting more fuel...wouldnt you say? i cant imagine a car running a fuel map by a wheel sensor...i could believe an 02 sensor but isnt it before the cat?

I dont believe this is whats happening but if the ECU is seeing different wheel speeds, it could be cutting spark, which would cause an overly rich condition.

Conserative correction factor for drivetrain loss is 12.5% . A lot of tuners and magazines will use 15% or 20% . Even at 12.5% that's very good - 185.14hp at the crank is pretty impressive - any mods?

Deposit down - no idea when... Currently 2001 GTI 1.8T

I'm just guessing that with the exhaust off the ECU dumped more fuel to keep it safe. With the rear not moving and the front going 60+ MPH maybe that added to the confusion.

I could be totally wrong.
