Offline | ProMini Cold Air Intake VS Alta Cold Air Intake??? Hello Gents. I've been out of the Mini click for sometime now. I went to the dark side with my Mitsubishi Cordia Turbo. So the Mini Has been sitting for some time now. I start and drive him every week or so. Anyway to my question. When I first got my 03 Cooper S there was not alot of pickings out there for performance parts, now Ive noticed there is alot of parts and makers out there, so now Ive desided to give him some attention. At the moment I have a ProMini CAI. From what I've read, the Alta shows the most HP gains. Can you guys agree with this? If so, do you think its worth going from my ProMini CAI to the Alta? Thanks guys...... |

Offline | I've had both. I prefer the Alta but there isn't a large performance difference. Or none depending on who you listen to. ![]() The ProMINI is cheaper and both give you a nice improvement in sound and a small improvement in HP. |

Offline | obehave, Thank for the reply. Since you had both, is the Alta cai that loud compared to the ProMini/BMP? I"ve read where some say its LOUD (Supercharger whine.) I really cant see it being really any louder then any other aftermarket cai out there, not saying loud is bad.... Thanks again, SS Mini |

Offline | Thats right, I did notice in some pics that the back part of the wall behind the cai was removed. Ok, thats why is louder then my ProMini cai. What is your take on foam VS the K&N type cloth filters? I"ve read a little on diffrent sites and everyone thinks diffrent when it comes to the 2. From what I read about foam, there tends to be more that like it better then the cloth type filters. How about you? Thanks... |

Offline | I used K&N for decades. They work well if maintained well. I also really like the foam filter. Foam has better clog tolerance than cloth. Other than that there isn't much difference. Removal of the rear wall allows the SC sound to transfer into the car easier. Makes it slighly louder. |
