MINI extreme - MINI Cooper S Challenge MTH

What is going on in a grown ups mind when they decide to invest
£37,400 into a MINI? Maybe there is this Porsche killer instinct or
the David beats Goliath syndrome. And it may well be this special feeling
every time their little Brit is beating a Boxter off the traffic lights.

Franz Hölzl from MTH can easily help those people. Even with a works tuned MINI Cooper S JCW (210 bhp) MTH finds more power. Over 30 bhp more to be exact. Just with the modified software and a special header (fullfils EU4 emission control) this little MINI mutates to a big player. 247 bhp making for a very quick ride. 0-100km/h is done within a mere 5.3 seconds. Above 2000 RPM, a shear inferno breaks loose which will come to a stop only within the deep red figures at over 7000 RPM´s. The supercharger howls like a bunch of angry hornets and the exhaust is adding a nice deep roar to that.....

....Being flat out on the highway you can only imagine how shocked people are, and what they think, when this little Cooper S will not disappear from the rear view mirror of those big luxury cars.

BHP: 247
Torque: 280 NM at 3900 RPM
0-100 km/h: 5.3 sec
Figures found from independant testing.

MOTORS January 2006
----------------------

**The JCW Challenge was a limited edition available in Germany. Only 100 were made. Styling is standard, only the CF rear wing and a couple of interior items changed.
Price of this car new was £28,500 fully loaded. So with the other extras it came to £37,400 (suspension, wheels, exhaust, rear modification etc.)

so Si is this just MINI in the media or are you saying that you can offer this upgrade for JCW owners?

The only problem I have is knowing which one to drive?

I can offer both the remap and the manifold....no problem, to match the figures of the above car.

Abit of insider info for MINI2, prices are due to rise for MTH files and Manifolds directly from MTH, but im trying to keep the prices the same for the UK market more to be revealed soon.......

The MTH website claims that the MTH Kit 1 (MTH sports manifold - fully stainless steel, special 400 cell catalyst converter. Includes a special version of the tuner software) gets 10hp more than the Tuner File on a standard Cooper S.

Getting another 27hp from just tweaking the ECU doesn't seem plausible.

That's true, but JCW has a smaller pulley as opposed to the MTH1 kit (MTH3 has the smaller pulley, air filter, cams and cylinder head as JCW has and also gets to 250hp). The MTH software utilizes the pulley better than the JCW software I think.

I already had Digi-Tec tuning and the here described MTH header and tuner file afterwards installed. The gain is amazing, I take roundabouts in 3rd gear and pull away from 1100 revs with 4 people in the car, it's like a diesel now

Beware if you have a Milltek and take the MTH header, the sound will become deafening but cool.

The JCW kit doesn't include a cam change nor extensive modifications to the cylinder head.

The EssentiaMINI website lists a Tuner File which supposedly boosts the MCS JCW to 230hp and 250Nm. Horsepower exaggerations aside, there is no way adding a header to the mix is going to bump torque up to 280Nm

Our Mini club has a dyno day scheduled on 11th February, then I know for sure (can't wait)
There will be stock and JCW Mini's too, with and without MTH headers. The torque certainly almost feels like 280 Nm with my MTH header. I now pull up on my driveway with a slight up-slope just on clutch, no revving up necessary anymore. The numbers given are probably on the bright side, but I already had Digi-Tec with MTH tuner file and the header with optimized tuner file (version 7) gave a lot more power. The MTH header should not be underestimated.

And as the good post from Cooper_si stated, numbers are found by independant testing! Ofcourse Essential Mini has commercial interest in this but I can subscribe to the fact that the header brings a lot.

The Challenge JCW which was available in Germany is a standard JCW 210 (engine) but with lots of JCW extras such as seats, brakes etc., etc. This car is not one of our company demo cars and has been tested by MOTORS. If it would have been our car, it surely would have been fitted out with our own suspensiuon and brakes ;-).

We will have a normal S featured soon just with TF and header. We will see what the outcome is.

As for the new prices that Si mentioned. From January 1st 2006 we will have to charge 16% VAT on top of all prices for all customers living within the EU. The header will go up too because of higher material cost and VAT.
