Exhuast Difference

Hi

Anybody knows what are the differences in the stock exhaust between pre-05 and 05 model MCS? I know that the hangers are different, but anything else?

Is the difference contributing to the additional 7bhp?

i believe the extra 7bhp comes from the ecu.

I don't know the differences, but my wifes 05 MCS has a deeper and louder exhaust note than my 04 MCS.

And I'm extremely jealous of that!

No difference at all, the 7bhp is from the ecu update which can be purchased for £300-£350 from BMW.

Understand that there are more 'poping' or 'burbling' sounds in the 05 model.

Fisher, are the external of the pre-05 and 05 exhaust entirely the same?

Wondering whether is there any changes in the internals?

The exhaust hangers were changed late in 2004.

The popping/burbling is due to ECU and timing changes.

And side-by-side in our driveway, the 2005 has a deeper tone. I don't know why, but my wifes 05 has a different, deeper tone than my 04.

Are you serious? But why the dealers don't tell us about this, Im sure they want to make some $$ out of it.

Please let me clarify. Sure the software increases the number of times the exhaust gurgles on the let-go of the throttle, but nothing short of a relative strip-down of the muffler will make such a discernable volume difference. Software vs. hardware.

FTR: I've had my MINIs in for service umpteen bijillion times and never has a technician made an unwarranted upgrade.
