| Pannel filter question I was going to buy a K&N 57i but people have told me these will make my car loose power. Do any of you have a K&N pannel filter on your car and does it make it much louder ?? Cheers Last edited by KPKalle : Jan 6th, 2006 at 10:03 PM. Reason: Removed e-bay reference number |

Offline | the only way people would not have any more power from a cone induction ie 57i is if the failed to connect a sufficiant air feed pipe to it other wise it would suck in more hot air than cold having never fitted it im not sure on the set up but all pipercross do a pipe so you could possibly order that as well from what ive heard the k&n is a better fit under the bonnet (i think) as this i what intened to fit to my car soon ![]() confusion, madness and disorder .............. my work here is done |

Offline | Problem is only the Viper Induction kit is a sealed unit that doesnt suck in hot air I believe. Not really an issue with this weather though! Summer yeah probably a power loss due to underbonnet temps. but we're still only talking a few HP. |

Offline | i thought the power bhp gain from an idcuction like the 57i was pretty small without the rest of the system configured as well ie chip, zorst, manifold / and at a push cylinder head confusion, madness and disorder .............. my work here is done |

Offline | True its pretty damn small! Mainly because the car cant suck enough air to warrant a new filter, although it does seem to improve low down torque slighty. But get yourself a flowed head and all important increased lift cams and then it comes into play. But I think the issue here is that in some conditions a car fitted with an induction kit has less power than a standard car. Reminds me of Nova's(only one way though) anyone thats owned an old Nova will tell you its pointless adding an induction kit as you loose power. The best option is to get a quality panel filter and drill holes in the bottom of the air box. The air below the air box is cool as heat naturally rises and you still maintain a cold air feed from the front of the car. The MCS's induction kits are really the best idea by getting air from the cawl vent area (that doesnt look like its spelt right). If you take air from that area you can actually naturally get a tiny bit of forced induction as air pressure exists in this area. Any free horsepower is a good thing ![]() But personally who cares about a 2HP increase or loss! It sounds great! ![]() |

Offline | I have/had an Alta panel filter in my MCS for a while - several thousand miles I changed it back to the standard filter before taking it into BMW for a service and in my honest opinion, can't be bothered to put the Alta back in..theres nothing in it... infact sometimes Im convinced that the standard panel filter feels more responsive. Really cant hear much difference either! hopefully a different matter when I get it booked in to GTT for the 220 package ;-) |

Offline | I wish.....well i'd probably do the same as you at some point except probably the 230 to get the larger intercooler which is a big advantage. Especially come summer. ![]() |
