United-Kingdom Exhaust Burble ? How ?

Hi,

Am I correct in thinking that the 05 MCS exhaust "burbles" more than the 04 cars ?

Reading on NAM that the reason for this is
"The '05 burble is caused by the ECU pulling ignition timing to ~-30deg. on sharp off throttle movement."

Does this sound correct ? Anyone know if you can make the 53 plate car burble more ?

I have a Milltek cat back installed and you can hear burble sometimes.

Cheers

The 05 MCs was made to burble and pop more than the previous model, but I'm not certain how you can chip your car to do that. By the way, it sounds great!

I thought it burbled more because of an internal redesign of the muffler.

It's bit of both chipping & modification.

Spotty Dog,
Thanks for the link.....

I am still puzzled why this can not not be retrofitted...... could not a company like MTH add the "popping" effect to the ECU ?

Thanks

Have a look at our sponsors, they may be able to help, especially with a new exhaust system. The pre 05 did do, but it wasn't as prevelant. A different exhaust may amplify the sound. (Sponsors directory in the red bar up the top.) The retro fit was ruled out by BMW/Mini, but gave no reason.

A different exhaust on the earlier cars (for example I had a PlayMINI for a while) amplifies the pop/gurgle significantly.

I have 2003 MCS and MTH software. It burbeld with my Milltek, now it Burbles heavily with MTH Header and Milltek.

I have heard you get the face lift (2005) software if you order MTH, this comes with the burbles. Maybe someone can confirm.

Mine's a stock '05 MCS engine & exhaust, and burbles like crazy... How much louder does it get with another exhaust? I'm going for the JCW exhaust, but from what I heard, it's not that much louder, but I've only heard them from pre '05 models.

My car is an April 04 MCS, here's some before and after (Milltek cat-back) exhaust clips…

BEFORE (stock exhaust)

AFTER (Milltek cat-back)

Both clips are under 4mb.
