K&N Panel Filter or JCW?

Okies here's the question...

I've currently got a K&N panel filter on my MCS. I'm considering getting the JCW air filter kit. Is the JCW air kit better than the K&N?

I've read Roland's post regarding the different restrictions on the difference filters (from memory doesn't say anything abt the K&N), and also checked out the GTT/JCW hybrid.

It's not a case of how much it costs as I know JCW are a rip, but more of "Is the JCW better than the K&N panel filter?"

Also what should I expect to gain (other than an empty wallet/bank acct ) from the JCW air filter kit?

I wouldn't get a JCW intake... For that price, get Alta CAI, and enjoy the really nice S/C whine from the Alta intake!

And save some $$$ too.

Just got the JCW upgrade kit to standard MCS which includes larger injectors and JCW software. Used to have a panel filtrer....this is much better....refined up to 4500rpm then the flap opens........... when you look at the price which includes injectors and software is better value than usual from JCW....cost m AUD $ 1200 fully installed. My verdict is that it is a great mod.

hyprblu,

Did you have the original JCW kit or was your car a standard (if thats possible ) MCS? I am considering getting the JCW intake but I assumed you couldn't get the injectors or software unless you had the original JCW upgrade. Do the injectors make any difference to the standard engine. The impression I have got from postings on Mini2 is that the injectors are only needed for the JCW engine.

That's right. I asked MINI as well and they said you couldn't get the upgrade without the JCW kit. HyprBlu has 17% pulley from memory.

Yeh I know I could get an Alta CAI, but I'm particularly after the JCW... just coz I like the box and badges (yeh lame), but it's just a personal preference. I want it as legit as possible (in MINI's eyes) before the warranty expires (1.5 yrs) then I'm turning to the dark side away from JCW.. LOL..

No it wasn't JCW already but.....Yeah I have the 17% promini pulley.....and obviously a very friendly dealer as he fitted the pulley and the JCW upgrade kit.....I would ask around some dealers and maybe one of them will know how to get one for you.

If it was just a filter issue I'd say ALTA CAI all the time. But adding new software and injectors is a new ball game really … if you could get that done it might be worth it.

I reckon either option would safely give you better power than the panel jobbie.

Cheers Liam

I had a K&N panel filter, which was an improvement over the regular filter. I then had the JCW CAI fitted, and although it felt a tad quicker, the best thing is the audible noise when you hit 4500. The SC screams and you sense the acceleration.

Early is on time; On time is late.
