PlayMINI exhaust [TT style or Slash Cut?]

Hi

Which exhaust will give a better sound without a silencer?
The TT style or the Slash Cut? Which one will give a sportier sound. Which one is harder?

They both sound exactly the same the only difference is the tailpipe

I heard the TT make a deeper sound because of the bigger tallpipe.

Maaij,

Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder, and so does sound apparently . As per my PM's on the Dutch MINI2.NL forum, I preferred the TT because of the looks and the sound. I listed to a few TT's and Slash Cuts and experienced the TT as a deeper sound compared to a slash cut. But most of all, I find the tail pipe the better looking of the two.

More people experienced a difference in sound, e.g. in this topic. As the exhaust will "age", the sound will change. The difference in age will probably have made the difference on the MINI's I have listened to. Additionally others parts will influence your sound, e.g. your air filter and perhaps even your fuel.

zoooooom has been involved in the development of the two exhaust, so he probably has the best comparison; comparable exhausts in age, on the same car. Based on this the decision is easy: what do you consider better looking ("Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder" ). Just go for it!

Emergency procedure: put head between your legs, and kiss your ass goodbye.

Problem is: I really dont know which to choose. I never heard anything in real life.
I like them both. That make it more difficult to choose between these 2
Some ppl say the sound is difference and other say its the same. You said the sound of the TT is deeper. Does it mean it makes more sound?
I really like the sound of this one:

How is the TT compared to this?

Personally I feel that the experience of sound is hard to tell from a recording. Turn the volume up and the exhaust sounds louder, turning it down has the opposite effect. Besides this, the recording you refer to is from the back of the Cooper, at streetlevel and a rather close distance. How often do you plan to listen to your exhaust from that spot?

Berthil has a Miltek exhaust under his MCS. He made several very nice tapes. I have seen a number of these, but I have also heard the exhaust for real. While travelling to MINI United in Misano I have driven close behind him on the Autobahn and in various tunnels. It just is not the same. Additionally the tapes I have seen were prior to his MTH manifold upgrade. As you know, this upgrade also made a considerable impact on the sound level of his exhaust. I once made a recording of the sound of our PlayMINI inside our car, while looking at the revs. See whether I still have it or whether it is a victim of my recent PC crash. . Otherwise I will try to make a new one, similar to the one you referred to.

My advise is to meet with other users and listen to the real thing. Listen to the car on the outside and inside while it runs its revs and shifts through the revs. I did when I was looking for another exhaust. Also ask the owner for the further specs of his MINI. Does he have the standard manifold and / or standard air-intake? The air-intake is probably a difference you will not note while standing at the back of the car, but you will hear a difference when you are driving in it. A sports manifold is designed for a better flow, this does impact the overall sound.

Emergency procedure: put head between your legs, and kiss your ass goodbye.
