Question Fitting a supercharger to a mini cooper

Hi,

This might be a really stupid question but I was just wondering if you can fit a Supercharger to a standard mini cooper. If so why not?

Cheers

in theory yes you could but the cost would be so high it'd be cheaper and easier to buy a Cooper S

No it cant be done properly because the compression ratios for a Cooper and a Cooper S are different,
Cooper CR 10.5/1
Cooper S CR 8.33/1
you would have to run very high octane fuel,
also retard the timing a lot to prevent knock.

New Zealand Retrofit supercharger

When you buy a John Cooper Works kit you get a new head and supercharger to fit. The parts taken off are legally the owner's. Therefore you may be able to buy the old parts from someone who has them in their garage at home. This may be a cheaper way of you converting your car.

but seeing as the cooper gear box has a problem staying together with a cooper engine on it do you think it would handle the power of a MCS?

Well that theoreticly sounds right, but you also need all the other stuff (cooler, injection, inlet bits, ecu, blah blah blah ... basicly half a cooper s engine) by the time you are done buying the parts you have the cost of a coopers s, so there is hardly any point. However if you spent that cash on upgrading your naturally aspirated cooper to about 150 bhp, you would have a car that will be pretty close to the cooper s in power.

That is by far the more realistic approach...
