Optimax Vs Unleaded

Recently purchased a Mini Cooper S, is there any benefits from filling my motor with Optimax compared to normal 95 unleaded? Will I get better performance and more importantly better miles to the gallon?

I've moved your thread to the Engine & Drivetrain Tuning section. If you search here you'll find a lot of discussion on the subject

In general though you should get better performance. As regards economy, I've heard arguments both ways although in my Cooper I do get better mileage.

Oh and welcome to MINI2

slightly more responsive on the higher octane with more popping from the exhaust (worth it in itself), i have found you need to run about two tanks through to let the ecu adjust to the fuel, u could reset the ecu, this is quite simple and if you drive the car quite hard for a tank of petrol or two the ecu will store your driving style and become more responsive etc

EVO car magazine did a really good test last month, trying out all the available types of petrol. Looking at the article, they say that in all cases on all cars they tested, Optimax made the engine feel keener to rev to the red line and the car's performance wss often up in terms of bhp too. Another good one to try are the supermarket petrols, like Tesco 98 - which gave even better results than Optimax. However, they concluded that even if you were to run the car on a different type of petrol they'd still advise you to use Optimax every few tankfulls, just for the benefits of the fuel helping to clean the engine. Hope that helps...

Note- the Tesco's is 99

I read the evo article, and tried a tank of optimax- it does seem to pop more- nice.

I get 20 more miles with high ron fuel than the cheap stuff, per tank.

so are we saying tesco 99 is the way to go or optimax?

or are we saying put optimax in every few tanks to clean the engine up a bit...tesco 99 has no cleaning properties i take it?

Ive just bougth a cooper S and use to drive a TDCI and do a 100 miels aday so im trying to conserve fuel and get to and from work as cheaply as possible, anyway ive tried optiax and got 370 miles to a tank, normal grade fuel i get 350 miles to a tank, what u have to consider is does the extra u spend in optimax equate to 30 miles worth of fuel?? But if u buy optimax for th e extra fun and responsiveness of the engine and the drive then it doesnt really matter! BP ULTIMATE is also very good!

Optimax, who makes that fuel? Shell?

Cause en Denmark, we have got a fuel from Shell called V-Power? Is that identical, but with different names?

Cheers.

Shell Optimax is 98 RON Octane. I have used Shell V-Power in Germany, and it is 100 Octane, very welcome by owners of the many tuner cars there.

It does not seem to be available in France, Holland, Belgium or Luxembourg as I looked for it on the way in and out of Germany.

If you can get V-Power in Denmark then you are lucky!

Well, i can get V-Power. But i am pretty sure, that it is only 97-octane? I'm gonna have to check!
