Milltek cat-back for Cooper

Spent a couple of hours reading up on cat-backs for Coopers, and it seems many people love the Milltek!

I had a Magnex 3.5" cat-back before, but took it off as I found it too noisey and boyracerish. It also didn't seem to do anything for the performance.

All I want from an aftermarket exhaust is to make the car sound sportier and better, with a nice deep throaty exhaust note a LITTLE louder than stock but not much at all, that in no way booms or drones while driving/cruising (it needs to be barely noticeable in the car, and I don't want to be able to hear a constant exhaust note while driving all the time it drives me mad!).

I want it to be just about as quiet as stock at cruising, but from the outside (and inside a BIT) while idling/accelerating/driving hard, I want it to make the car sound deeper and throatier but not too loud and not "obviously" being an aftermarket exhaust to a layman. Just for someone to say "that car sounds great".

Do you think I'll be happy with the Milltek on my Cooper?? I've also got a K&N Typhoon, but as yet no other performance mods.

Cheers for any help,

Mark

Mark, i've got a Cooper with Milltek Header & Exhaust, with K & N & AMD chip and its sounds great when "Leathered" and different but quiet when the wife drives it to work.
Its also OK on the motorway and has contributed to an increase in the performance in conjunction with the other mods.

Next is larger TB & possibly a new MTH tuner map (together).

Cheers.

Is it audible on the motorway though?

How much louder (%) is the catback than stock generally?

It is noticable on the Motorway

10% louder on start up 15% louder while pottering about % 20% louder when trashed.

i'm not really that good with %, but the reason the Milltek was purchased was a combination of 1. Non Boy racer sount & 2 Quality & improved performance

Has anyone got JUST the Milltek cat-back fitted to their Cooper (stock manifold and everything else, no other mods that will make any noise) that lives in West Yorkshire?

Hi

I have a typhoon and a Milltek cat back. Driving around town normally it sounds nearly normal, it's only when you really boot it, 4k plus, when you really notice a difference. On the motorway you do have to turn the radio up a little to hear the traffic news So in answer to the question, is it the same as stock? No you will hear it from the inside when crusing.

I really like the combination and the engine is much more free reving.

Cheers

Paul

I just don't want it to be too noticeable like my old Magnex was.

What bhp gain will it give on my Cooper (MTH Tuner remap, K&N Typhoon) to tell my insurance company?

Much louder than stock, or just a bit?

For instance would my gf notice it being "louder" than before?

with an aftermarket exhaust you have to expect some more noise! From what I read about the Milltek they are slightly louder than stock in normal driving but you really notice it when you put your foot down - just the way it should be I think

The main thing I'm concerned about is motorway driving.
