Offline | Alternator Pulley Removal/Replacement I hope to very soon replace my SC pulley with a -15% unit. I have purchased a larger replacement alternator pulley as well. This should allow the use of a standard belt. Are there any tricks or tips to removing the alternator pulley? What size/type of fastener holds it to the alternator? Reverse threads? Thanks in advance!!! DS/B MCS |

Offline | I'm thinking no one has done this. Some how, some way, it is going to happen. 03 Cooper S DS/W,Sport/Prem,PB-L,NAV,Alta,H-Sport,MINI Tuner 99 Miata 10AE #1288 SCCA Solo 2 CS 58 |

| Twincharge??? | It's not no one have done it but they're not on here that's all ![]() Try http://www.northamericanmotoring.com/ During the SC pulley installation the alternator pulley doesn't required to be removed and there's no point anyway. Even when you changed the oversized crank pulley (2-4%, whatever one you like) it still doesn't mandate the change of an undersized alternator to correct its driven speed, given that the alternator as it names implies is alternate ie it's not running 100% of the time, only switch itself on when it detects voltage drops to a certain level. Plus overdriving it by a mere few percent isn't likely to significantly reduce its life anyway as it should still be well within its tolerance. (congrats to Paul though, his SEO works a treat! M2 must be ranked pretty darn high on search engines just noticed theres a fair few Americans popping in suddenly)EDIT: I got a few things wrong up there...correct me please ![]() |

Offline | It is slightly oversized to underdrive the alternator and to take up the slack in the drive belt when an undersized super charger pulley is fit. This allows the use of the stock sized belt. It is also supposed to be lighter. Some people are using a larger crank pulley but the stock pulley is damped to absorb engine vibration. Some people don't recommend an undamped crank pulley. 03 Cooper S DS/W,Sport/Prem,PB-L,NAV,Alta,H-Sport,MINI Tuner 99 Miata 10AE #1288 SCCA Solo 2 CS 58 |
