Offline | location is important, at the front of the radiator then it will restrict cooling capacity for the coolant, at the rear of the radiator no point because the hot air from the radiator will not be of help for cooler thus may cause LO viscosity to drop.Best location is below the radiator just behind the front bumper I guess. If u are not into race I suggest not to install |

Offline | its a no name oil cooler and it is quite small the size is 280mm long x 120mm high x 50mm thick so it should be ok in the front bumper ! also i have a carzone bodykit so the airflow at the front is more than enough !!! im wanting to fit this more for looks as i only have minimal mods at the moment : MTH remap , Cold air intake , cat back exhaust plus i put the car in lots and lots of car shows i think it will look good in the front bar with anodized fittings and braided lines !!! |

Offline | Hi, As Nick (Enzo) mentioned I have an oil cooler, which is front mounted. This install is tricky, as it requires removing the small stock oil cooler, and installing a custom plate with mountings for the lines. Also, once installed it is a ***** to get right, as the flex from the engine tends to stretch and wear the oil lines, which can rub on other components, and potentially break or leak, which is a major disaster You definitely DO NOT want to run this with braided lines, as they have less flex or stress and will probably cause problems BTW, I think that was probably the problem with dairy boys cooler, as when I saw the car in Greendevil's days, it was definitely braided lines Also there is no performance gain from this mod at all, apart from engine longevity on the racetrack. Considering all these factors, and your stated aim of putting the car in car shows I would recommend you install the cooler, with nice anodised fittings and braided lines, but don't connect the lines, and hide the ends of the lines where no-one can see them Cheers Robbo Mods: GO MADDIE and SPARKY! |

Offline | thanks robbo !! i was hoping i could just buy one of those sandwhich filter type things that goes on the block before the oil filter !! i actually thought about the engine movement and what would happen to the oil lines so i was gonna use braided lines and give them a bit of slack and cable tie them out of the way so they dont rub on anyhting............ |

Offline | Not trying to put you off or anything, but I just think you should probably not do this. As you say, you're doing a show car, why not think about investing a bit into getting someone to make you a FMIC? You can find several pics around with some basic setups. It might lose you a bit of power, maybe gain but I dont think thats you're real motivation in what you want to do with the car. In terms of looks you could'nt impress more with shifting an IC forward and it would be bigger and badder 'looking' than an oil cooler. |

Offline | The sandwich type fittings you are on about are NFG on the MINI as they are used on the standard type oil filters, which the MINI does not have. MINI Speed in the UK and MINI Mania in the US and the UK, sell a kit. I have not had any luck getting them to sell me the special adaptors they use. I had queried Robbo, a very long time ago on this, I went as far as getting the tranny cooler he used but unfortunately never got an answer as to the engine side of the install. I found his idea of using the Cooper auto cooler very neat indeed! I do track and have raced my car, I find oil temps in the 250 Deg F to be too hot for comfort, but hey, the JCW Race prep boys tell me they never use coolers...... |
