Remap neccesary for induction kit ?

Hi,

I've just bought a BMC CDA induction kit for my One and it's waiting to be placed... but now do I need a remap of the ECU for this?

It has been remapped by a Belgian tuner company here to 139 hp. Now I'm going to fit this BMC CDA and I would like to know if it would need a remap? And would it be usefull if I took it back for a remap? Cuz this is probably gonna cost me some money....

Grts

Shouldn't matter that much. You might get a couple HP out of it. So the question is if you think it's worth the money.

Intakes and cat back exhausts can be fitted with no remap. Obviously all remaps are at their best when specifically designed for use with parts fitted, but the intake and exhausts variations are usually within the perameters of an ECU map (most adjust to a degree to take account of air flow variations)

As Richard says, as long as the exhaust and intake mods are within the parameters of the ECU there will be little to gain from a remap. However this is simply theory - it may make a difference in reality.

However some exhausts can be so free flowing that a remap is vital. An exmaple of this is when a small batch of exhausts were made for the BMW E34 M5's. The exhausts were considerable more free flowing than the stock item and caused many flat spots through the rev range - hence fuelling had to be adjusted.

Wolfman...I don't think this applies to any of the well known (and therefore likely to be used) MINI cat-back systems. Also that batch of exhaust for the M5 were inclusive of reworked manifolds and cats wern't they?

If you fit a high flow manifold/cat then a re-map is a must to get the most from it. For any of the available MINI CAI (except possibly the M7 direct intake) I don't think it is a must (especially if your already running a tuned map) and certainly for a MINI catback its virtually a definate no need.

Exhausts that are too free flowing will naturally cause bad flat spots in the mid range.

Id imagine that the current map will take care of the induction kit since its most likely been aimed at a car having one anyway.

You guys have me worried now, which of the reputable MINI replacement exhausts are known to be too free flowing for the standard maps adjustment capabilities? From my understanding the majority of major companies (Milltek, Playmini, Borla etc) do not need remaps and don't develop flatspots anywhere in the rev range? Who has an exhaust on the market (catback) that needs a remap?

You used exactly the word "Reputable", I wouldnt expect any too. But there's the bigger exhaust is better groups of people that use stupid size pipe. With a stock manifold & cat its not much of a worry.
