That will suck in too much hot air in my opinion! Although you have a direct cold
air feed, the filter is still in the moddle of a very hot engine bay and will suck in
alot of hot air from it which may result in a loss in perfromance.

thats how all the filters are on the ones/coops

the extra pipe he's put in place is to help with the cooling

Yes they're worth it, little performance difference, but they sound amazing, yes I'd buy again.

Looks like you have done the same as I did and used a piece of good old guttering.

Induction kits are lovely mods for Coopers. Performance is secondary to the sound, which is just so right in a Cooper.

I think that unless the intake is sheilded most Cooper intakes don't give much power as they suck far too much hot air. The pipe viper is sheilded a bit, and i have been told the mini mania do a cold air intake for Cooper. Personally I would improve the flow to the stock airbox witrh some mods, put a piper/K&N or similar rplacement filter into it and then change the feed pipe from box to engine to a smooth bigbore pipe....this would give better performance especially if the inlet to the stock airbox was modded to improve size and flow of air.

Essencially a home made CAI for the cooper....Why someone doesn't make something like the Alta or GTT unit (Cooper S) for the Cooper I just don't know! madness. Someone who is competant could create a really good CAi for the cooper based on a K&N/Piper intake but with a method of sealing from the warm air in the engine bay...You could make a killing if you sold it.

Not a bad mod youv'e done though (yours too beastmaster) Pretty ingenious. Maybe theres someone with some metal work experience to fabricate a sheilding box and some spare classic mini rubber door seal spare to seal it to the underside of the bonnet...instant CAI for the Cooper! Bet that would show some results.

this is a good idea.
I see you're well informed about all the induction kits for one/cooper... well right now I have a classic pipercross panel filter and I'm very happy of it's cost/performance-noise ratio but I'm starting to look at something more...
more power, more noise... little money!
the viper kit from pipercross is like the bmc cda? what would you fit to your mini?

Hey Maaij - I think it's a good idea what you did.
What did you go for in the end and did it prove to be resistant (vibration, heat) - no melting of the pipe?
No chance of water being sprayed directly on your typhoon?

I have the typhoon as well and love it!

I have just manufactured an aluminium air box with a K&N filter. All I need is a piece of rubber to edge it with. I will post pic's when I finish it.

Very impressive solution. I was wondering if anyone could tell me off hand the ID (Inside Diameter) of the modded air tube section as I am planning to do the same to my mini one.

On another subject I have recently put a typhoon in my one and I am very pleased with the results , does anyone know how to mount the filter so it does not wear into the bonnet lining?

The ID I used is 70mm. My typhoon also wear into the bonnet. I think this is normal.
