Offline | Help needed, choosing an exhaust..... Right im now quite far down the line in modding my MINI and as all of you know an esential part of incresing car performance and noise and looks is the exhaust... Now already there a quite a few for the MINI but im stuck on which one to buy... What i looking for is an exhaust that noticably increases the power on tap... and also gives a nice (loud) thoaty roar when you 'give it some' the exhaust's i know of are... John Cooper Works CAT back system HKS System Mini Spares System Playmini Powerflow... If anyone can advise me on which is best and how much etc i'd be very gratefull, im not worried about the warenty as long as the exhaust can be put back on when it comes to servicing etc... Thanx in advance Lee. |

| MINI2 Global Moderator | Remember that most exhausts on the market require the original one to be cut so that you can fit the back box. Some of them also require that you remove the exhaust hanging brackets from the vehicle as well meaning that it would be impossible to revert back to the original exhaust for servicing, not to mention an annoying job! Your best bet would be the JCW one as you can point out that BMW warranty the product as part of the Works upgrade. the MINI has gone... |

Offline | the exhaust system that i would buy would be a CAT back system... so there shouldnt need to be any cutting involved (shouldn't) I was looking at the John Cooper exhaust but im unsure about it because its been designed to work with a converted car... whereas the rest havnt... but theres an obvious plus with a JC one because of the warenty.. Im tempted to get a Playmini system.... £150 for the rear silencer and £52 for the CAT back pipe (with no silencer) for a very loud racing roar !!! DC you only live once..... |

| MINI2 Global Moderator | The JC one should be fine in conjunction with an induction kit as thats what the club sport cars have (no cylinder head mods) However, I'm going to get a playmini exhaust for mine in a few months, because I prefer the look, it's a bit bigger than the JC one... http://www.playmini.co.uk/new_mini.htm the MINI has gone... |

Offline | i dont know if im miss understanding you but.... the CAT back pipe (the lower picture) is the middle section and then its connected to the rear silencer (the top picture) of course using the center pipe on its own would be maddly loud without the rear silencer.... but im having both. but you proberly knew this (maybe) so tell me to shut it if im insulting your intelligence P.S suspension is going on tomorrow now and im proberly going to order the exhaust tomorrow or friday... but i cant fit it till wednesday next week because mine is going in for its 20k service and having loads of niggling things fixed on it for 2 whole days !!ill post pictures of it when its lowered ..... |

| MINI2 Global Moderator | You're probably right, I got the impression that you could have a straight through system from the cat back, although thinking about it, yours would make more sense! PM Zooooom as he will be able to tell you exactly what the situation is. Good luck! ![]() the MINI has gone... |

Offline | Last thursday i had a custom built system made for me by powerflow!I had a straight through single exit twin put on!It was too LOUD though, it bounced of the buildings. Today i went back and they put a bigger backbox on to drown the noise and changed the style of the tailpipe! It now looks and sounds much better and it also carrys a lifetime garantee!!Wicked!! ![]() |

Offline | hmm, is there something odd in Great Britain? howcome everyone is concerned about taking an exhaust off for servicing? Here in the states, if something breaks on your car, the dealer can yes, try to screw around with you if you have modifications but the law will uphold that unless they can prove your mods caused the fault, the dealer must honor their warranties (and well uhh, good luck proving a cat back exahaust broke anything). |
