DIY Hello and a little guidance please.

Just wanted to say "Hi" and ask a few questions.

My wife has a had her Mini for just over a year now. It is a dark silver MCS. It's quite a fun little car. We both really enjoy it.

I've been searching around a fair bit and I'm mostly just having a hard time getting used to the layout of this forum. I'm sure there have been threads stating the info I need but. I'll be damned if I can find them so please don't flame me. I did look.

So here's the deal. We both love the Mini but, I've been doing some work to my Evo VIII and now have it up to about 400BHP. It screams. Well, the wife took it out for a spin the other day and now she is complaining about her car not being fast enough and that I need to start working on it. Which is cool.

The only problem is I'm not sure where to start and what parts to avoid. IE: Intakes do basically nothing for an Evo until you get over 400hp. Blow off Valves vented to atmosphere cause idle issues. The clutch is the first thing to go usaually. Things like that would be nice to know so I don't waste money on unnecessary parts.

I'm guessing an exhaust, smaller pulley, air filter, and a reflash should wake it up a bit. I would probably start with the pulley and a reflash. Is that a good starting point or should I start with the intake and exhaust? What type of power levels would we be looking at with a package consisting of all of the above parts? 210bhp?

If you guys could just post some links that would be great. Thanks in advance.

Search the tech forum for:
cat back example results http://www.mini2.com/forum/search.php?searchid=1857745
pulley
cai or intake
ecu

ECU should be one of the last things since most files are set for a particullar mod level.
A decent intake kit will get you some HP too.
200 HP at the fly is pretty easy.
All the above will work.

Dat's the usual path.

You might look at www.dinancars.com for ideas. They have some good parts and show different mod packages.

Thank you.

I'm just trying to get my bearings in here. Everything is the same just different.

So, it looks like pulley, intake, exhaust, and then ECU.

What percent underdrive pulley to start with?

I've also been eyeing the quicksilver exhaust. Anyone on here have it?

Ooooo! The pulley question

That's an almost religious debate.
15% is the safe bet.

hey mate you'll get bored before you finish reading up all the discussions/myths/opinions/accounts on pulleys, truth is, different people recommend different things. But one thing i do guarentee is that you will love whatever pulley you do get.

If you're insistent on getting an bassy, louder exhaust, get an aftermarket system, but at least look at the "oneball" alternative. It makes your exhaust noticeably louder, the backpressure is significantly reduced, and it saves you about 20lbs of weight. Best of all, it costs you no more that about $50.

If i were you i'd get an intake (ALTA or GTT), pulley (depends on your style of driving, track or street), do the oneball system if you want, and reflash the ECU with something like GIAC or MTH.

Cheers,
Elie
