I'm having a strange quirk with my Power Steering. It's making a whining sound when I turn the wheel either way, and the furhter I turn, the louder it gets.

I'm also having a grinding sound happen when I accelerate. It grinds for about a 1 second and about 5 - 6 times.

Also, is it normal for my MINI to pull to the left when I break? Or is that a problem with alignment?

no.1 the whining/buzzing is normal, the mini has an electric power steering motor.

no.2 might need more info

no.3 have you tested it on a level road, sometimes road camber can affect the car.

My Mini One has steering noise and turns to the left, i also learnt in a Mini Cooper which did the identical.
Probably best to check out the 2nd thing

1. The steering does make that noise. It's normal
2. It could be the manifold. I had mine replaced for a vibrating noise on acceleration
3. There have been numerous threads about MINIs pulling to the left under braking. Apparantly it's a feature. I hope it's not a water feature when driving along side a river.

I get the steering noise and I find the steering to be very sensitive to road camber as mentioned before. Try it out on as flat a section of road as possible (theoretically a flat road doesnt exist), and if it does it, get the alignment done?

by the way: should the steering pump make the whine with the ignition only at position 1 - no engine running? I am getting a whir noise before starting engine and unsure if it is the pump?
