| In Love! | What K&N filter for my MC? Hi! I’m a pretty new mini owner, got my Mini Cooper ’02 in December last year. ![]() I’m now looking for some more noise to my little baby and I’m thinking of a new air intake. And found out that K&N have some nice intakes, right? After searching the net a bit I found two different air intakes that both called them self Typhoon. My question now is which should I get for my MC and what’s the difference. Oh, and where do I get the best price? Kit 1: K and N Filters Mini Cooper 1.6L Short Ram Air Intake - Air Intakes Kit 2: K and N Filters Mini Cooper 1.6L Typhoon Air Intake Systems - Short Ram - Air Intakes (Due to restrictions in the forum I’m not allowed to post links, but I found them on SFX Performance) |

Offline | The K&N Typhoon is a very nice induction kit. I ahd one fitted to my Cooper for approximately 10,000 miles, and the noise and slightly better power pickup were great. ![]() |

Offline | Ok, So i was looking at the John Cooper Motorsport Cone Air Filter, although dont know when they will be back in stock! Versus the typhoon kit, what would be better? Im assuming the K & N - as better brand? How much BHP would you gain from the K&N? Im assuming 5?Not that it bothers me, but rather know for insurance! And would the sound be sporty or chavey? i dont want to go around sounding like a boy racer! i want defined sporty sound ![]() |

Offline | I wouldn't expect 5bhp, maybe 2 or 3 bhp. The sound is only present when you have the accelerator depressed. When coasting, there is very little induction, thus no noise. The sound is not too 'chavvy', the car takes on a nice deep throaty sound when accelerating. The main difference I found was lower down the rev range. Much more low speed pickup. ![]() |
