Mine doesn't pop!

My 06 cooper S convt. has a little over 2000 miles now, and notice I don't have that popping sound.... Is this normal? The ones on the mini site pops.

Thanks!

Are you sure you're just not hearing it, I've yet to meet a Cooper S that doesn't pop. Try revving up to about 2.5k (with the roof down so you can hear it) and releasing (out of gear).

Autos don't pop as much in general I've found, still really great to drive (and I don't generally get on with autos). I've driven S' that are nearly 4 years old and examples that have covered a lot of miles, they still pop.

my 06 MCSa pops loads, maybe you're not just driving hard enough?

The key is the revs dropping (fairly) quickly - if you've revved it (in neutral is easiest as Paul says) to say 3-5k rpm and just take your foot off the gas quickly you should hear loads of popping

It's one of my favourite bits of the car! (And mine's done 17k+ and pops just as often as it always did.)

Have you had a listen from outside while someone else revs it (not that it should be that quiet) or putting the rear seats down?

You are not alone, I have only heard mine pop with windows down and parked between
two walls. Even then it wasn't anything to get excited over. These counterfeit Mini's must
be more common than we thought .

Some people are like a Slinky ........ not really good for anything, but you still can't help
but smile when you shove them down the stairs

mine pops something terrible. Try the combination of a oneball, MTH, and 98-100 RON fuel

Black MCS Alta CAI, MTH, OBX + One-ball, Alta Diverter w/ Sprayer, Recalibrated BPV, Alta 17% Pulley, Denso IK22s, Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s 215/40/17, Whiteline 20mm Adjustable Rear Swaybar, Ferodo DS2500s, Motul RB600, TCE SS braided brake lines

If it doesn't pop look at this:
Service Measure M 18 200 04 9/27/04
Subject: Model Year 2005 MINI Cooper S Popping From Exhaust
Complaint: The vehicle exhibits an acoustic feedback of the exhaust system under the following conditions: Engine braking in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gear. Increasing engine speed above 3000 rpm while the vehicle is stationary
The popping noise from the exhaust system can also be described as a “backfire” from the engine.
Measure: Do not attempt to repair or replace any parts, this is not a failure of any driveline components. The acoustic feedback is a standard feature of the 2005 Model Year Cooper S vehicle produced as of 7/2004. This feature cannot be retrofitted to the previous model year vehicles.

I particularly like the last bit, obviously aimed at your average BMW service centre.
Seems that some people don't like it to pop
