JCW Sound Kit Filters

On my jcw sound kit where the inlet pipe penetrates the first bulkhead there is what looks like a small k&n style filter? is this of any use as i would think removing might allow a little more air flow into the main housing seen as where it's located it draws on the negative air pressure at the base of the windscreen through the grille? and are they good quality filters at that?

This is a bit of an old post but I was just browsing...

I hope you didn't remove that filter mate, as from the looks of things it's the only thing stopping unfiltered air from reaching your engine. The 'sound pipe' running from the bulkhead enters the top of the airbox on the 'filtered' side of the intake, i.e. the air flows into the engine from there, with no additional filtering protection.

UNFILTERED AIR...BAD

FILTERED AIR...GOOD

FINDING YOU THREW AWAY AN IMPORTANT BIT OF YOUR SOUNDKIT...PRICELESS

Hope you didn't

What new bits? I didn't buy any new bits...
