| MINI2 Regular | OK, is this fact or fiction?? Right, first of all it breaks the ebay rule of: "if its too good to be true then it isn't!" But it ain't too cheap and there is some science behind it. So is this fact or fiction? http://www.electronicturbosystems.com/3.htm Can this replace the whole s/c and manifold system and be plonked on a cooper??? Any one done this or got one? I need opinions please. Not sure about getting one unless a dozen or so people reply and say its magic!!! Otherwise I'm just interested what some of you more techie guys think. |

Offline | there are several kits like this up for sale it is a air filter with a 12volt fan on the inlet pipe cant see how it adds any more power as the performance filter cone is already on there and i would be pretty certain it would not add 20bhp there is only a certain amount of air a standard throtle body will take in any way personally i wouldnt buy it butter off just getting a filter on its own in my opinion. |

Offline | It's just a powerful hairdryer I've seen these on ebay from the same guy: You might like to have a read of this, especially the "testemonial" at the bottom. I laughed at the comment it places no strain on your battery as it only requires 40A - could have been a typo!! But he has a rival selling them for around £100: They consist of an in-line centrifugal fan. I would think they are simply ON or OFF with no actual speed control, although there is a hint that the Mk4 version will be controllable, and they rely on the ECU to adjust to the correct air/fuel ratio. If they can force more air into the engine I suppose they must work to some degree, just like square wheels might. You might need to ask, if they work, why manufacturers don't fit them instead of resorting to complicated belt driven superchargers or exhaust driven turbochargers. You might also like to ask; Would you pay £300 for something that was available for £100. Would you really want to fit it to your expensive car, if you think it's too good to be true it probably is. ![]() |

| New Mini Specialists | In principle it should work on cars with poorly designed inlet systems, but i would not expect much from it. I would be very surprised if this system could deliver as much boost as a well turbo/super charged system, and if it will be durable over a long time. You clearly wont see the same gains if you use that to replicate the cooper s set up. Andrey |

Offline | The MCS uses a "positive displacement" supercharger. This means that two intermeshing, driven rotors take air into a housing and compress it. Air cannot escape anywhere but forward into the engine. The amount of pressure delivered is measured in psi (pounds per square inch) versus what a simple blower can do in terms of "inches of water column pressure". One psi is equal to 27 inches of water column pressure. Another analogy is to think of a race car travelling at say 100mph with a "ram air intake" on top of the carburetor (or F.I). The air velocity encountered exceeds what some little blower will deliver. I dare say this race car will benefit some, but not much from this configuration. Don't waste your money, or stated another way- you get what you pay for. |
