When i was last at MiniMania in Wales they mentioned to me that when changing brake pads you should reset the handbrake.

I am unsure on what exactly i should do.

Can someone please fill me in on these details.

I changed the pads a little back and find the breaking pedal is a bit spongy. Could this be related

the parking brake is self-adjusting, and usually doesn't need further adjustment after a pad change.
It should have no drag at one click, some drag at two clicks, and should not pull up
more than 7 clicks.
to adjust, loosen the brake cable nut (inside the vehicle) until slack,
take out the brake pads, press in the caliper pistons fully, reinstall the pads,
and then adjust the cable adjusting nut (inside the vehicle) until the gap between
the actuator lever and notched pin at the caliper is 2-3 mm
(it helps to see the picture on page 340-32 of the Bentley manual).
Then apply parking brake lever three times
press brake pedal to the floor at least three times
check the gap again and reset if necessary
