the only reason i put the miltek on the minster is the noise it makes. i couldnt give a toss whether it gives the car an extra 3 or 300 hp. the standard system works fine and im sure a company like bmw did their research on what works and what doesnt. i just wanted something that sounded nice but was still quite enough so the cops didnt pull me over all the time.

I'm sure you'd give a toss if it made 300 hp..You would'nt be able to control the car!

I'm with you though...I'm thinking of the Miltek because of those exact reasons...I've spent some time in Liam's car, and I love the way it sounds and looks...

Sure, a phatter exhaust may give you more power, but how @#$#^ useless is an extra 3 kW at 7000rpm? C'man - the action is a lot lower in the rev range.....

Of course, I've expressed my opinion on this before; being that if you're after a cat back on your lightly modified street car for costmetic and aural reasons - then you're on the right track. There's no shame in that - just stop being a sheep and admit it!

Hi Tit,

You've hit the nail on the head pretty much there. Horsepower gains are minimal. In reality, most people are doing it for the look and the sound, which is fine

As for performance gains, I find the endless threads on NAM etc about exhausts mildly amusing People argue about back pressures, power gains on dyno's etc etc. However, you can tell that the vast majority of people are not interested in real world performance benefits, only bragging rights or dyno runs

I have never seen a decent post anywhere about the weight differences between all of these after makert exhaust systems The weight differences are important. When you are talking about power gains in the range of 2-5kw, the weight changes are equally significant No-one seriously aiming for performance advantages would consider wheels without the weight, but people seem prepared to slap any exhaust system on the car, regardless of weight

Weight is one reason that the "one ball" mod is such a sleeper It makes mild performance gains, but saves a huge chunk of weight over the stock system It won't make your dyno sheet look much better, but it will make your car faster

Cheers

Robbo

Just to bring this thread back on track...

The Miltek exhaust - how much is it and what do you get for your money?

I've got a quote from a local exhaust shop and they have quoted $600-$800 for a custom system from the cat back. Basically increase the size of the main pipe from the cat back, then a resonator, split to two sport mufflers then join again at the back.

Does anyone have a Miltek in Cbr that I can listen to? Maybe at the next meet that is on?

Ooo Remus! Nice work Doona.

JME - a rough description of the miltek : is stainless steel, 2.5 inches from the cat, to a resonator, then 2 sporty mufflers, then twin exit pipes (slash cut style).

Theres a few clips around here somewhere of what the miltek sounds like. "Minigolf" has recorded some excellent clips that should give u a good idea of what it sounds like.

Shoot Chris (MiM) a PM to for prices on the Miltek system.

Haha, talk about Chinese whispers. The Canberra dude was me, and the power loss was 3kW. All told though, the dyno I used said I gained around 10kW from stock to ALTA CAI & Milltek cat-back.
