Australia New Exhaust in Canberra

My MCS is now out of warranty so I'm after a new exhaust for it I've had a look online but they don't really seem like great value for money, and I won't know what they sound like until it's fitted to the car.

I went to the display in front of Old Parliament House and there was a guy there with an MCS (silver I think) that had an aftermarket exhast fitted in Sydney, it sounded great. I think he said it was about $800 fitted for cat-back and a few hundred more for a full exhaust. I know it's very vague, but does anyone know where this would be from, or who the guy was?

Can anyone recommend a particular system? If so, and if they are local, can I come and have a listen? Does this make me some kind of weird exhaust groupie

The best person to speak to is Chris, his username is MiM here - he can help you out with exhausts .

Biggest HP gain I've seen so far is Supersprint. Can get it in modules if you don't want an end to end system.

Cheapest option if you want noise is to go down to your local exhaust place and replace the muffler with a piece of pipe. Probably only cost you $100 fitted. May not be legal tho!

You're lucky that there are several good after market workshops in Syd, so speak to the guys mentioned above and they should be able to find the right system for you. All the systems have plusses and minuses in terms of noise and hp but if you want both noise AND hp it's probably going to be pricey

Feb 02 R50 6sp Getrag, JCW brakes, Superchips ECU, Green filter, SuperSprint exhaust, ProMINI Brace, Fidanza flywheel, XTreme Clutch, Cobalt sump guard. 128dB stereo.

Pete got his for way less than that...just that I am not in a position to say how much.

Or better yet, just get the one ball, cost effective and gets the job done - biggest bang for your buck I reckon. Do the one ball, 15% pulley and the Alta CAI, can't go wrong

I got mine for 1500 landed - its no secret ive said it before.

Heres my preferences for exhaust options:

If Chris can do a miltek for 1500 id suggest u buy it from him.

Otherwise theres magna flow around somewhere for around 1500. (also very good!)

You can also get borla (race or street) for less than 2k easy (but more than 1500 i THINK) - I originally wanted a borla exhaust, but at the time couldnt get one cheap so i got miltek instead.

Xforce is around ( i think Dave - has this and v.happy with it). Not sure on price but no way near $2k

You can go to a mechanic (eg liverpool exhausts) to do a custom job around $200 mark. My friend cut out both mufflers, added a resonator and custom tips. Looked awesome, sounded louder the fully sik wrx's on the street (im not joking and not exaggerating here).

Finally as a last last last resort, id go oneball. around $60-70.

Just a small note, the stuff i listed above are probably more than what most people are willing to pay for an exhaust, theres probably a dozen in between options you could go for depending on how much $$ you want to throw at this thing.

Cheers

He did mention a resonator was added and a new tip that replaces both of those mufflers up the back - in effect it's an Alta clone by the sound of it. Resonator and tip cost money

I have a Borla exhaust on my MCS. Noticable Hp gain and not a big booming sound. Very happy with it.
PM me if you want any more info.
Cheers

Borla Sport, or Borla "Loud" as they're known to Chris sounds unbelievable.

But then that said, i love my oneball, and i'm absolutely satisfied with it. I've heard that the best bank for buck exhaust system, and a favourite on NAM, is the OBX header + oneball. That's probably what i'll end up going for, but i'm definately running a gutted cat. Bring on the flames.

there are SO many reasons I could tell you not to do that, but I would think the $5000+ fine if you get caught by the EPA should be enough....

Thought it's a $10k fine...Zoom or some other magazine did a back to back test with a normal cat, so-called high flow ones and gutted, there's jack all difference between them. No offence, only an idiot would run around without a cat unless it's a track-only car.

yeah that's what I thought about the hitech system I had. The dyno certainly proved me wrong! Interested to see if you actually dyno'd yours before and after?
