How to get the exhaust manifold OUT???

Hey guys, installing turbo kit... have the exhaust manifold completely disconnected, now how in the heck do I remove it from the car? Up it catches the heat shield/coolant reservoir/valve cover, down it's caught by the black brace...... anyone?

Nevermind guys, figured it out.... found another post on it too after another hour of searching..

Anyone who needs to know in the future: Remove the driver's side heat shielding FIRST (turbo install guide says to do it after removing the manifold), then angle it out and down through the bottom.

For searching assitance, disregard:
exhaust manifold removal
header replacement problem

What mods have you done to the engine (mainly the bottom end)? Can it hold with 20psi without breaking if its all standard?

The folks at Alta seem to think that up to 21psi can be had safely on the bottom end with their larger intercooler while being sprayed. I also have the added backup of the boost controller and a knock-lite to let me know if I'm pushing it to hard.... but we'll see where I get to!

Bottom end might be being rebuilt in the next year... sooner if I blow it up!

hehe, a key to makeing the engine last is low enough air temp and enough octane in fuel + right timing, if it knocks to much it blows.

I tried 30psi on a stock BMW 2.8 when WG hose melted.. it went bang

I plan on starting with minimal boost, maybe 16psi... and turning it up slowly using the boost controller. Maybe mixed gas for a few test runs to see how much I can turn it up, but at least premium all the time. Almost everything is on right now, relocating the power steering was the biggest PITA. Now it's all the little annoying clamps and tiny hoses and electrical wires for the gauges....

you got a new head with bigger exhaust valves right? if not the backpressure will just be huge, so 16psi on gauge aint really that much power

No new head.. and backpressure would be downstream of the turbo, not upstream. 16psi is just that.... 16psi. With bigger exhaust valves, more efficient plumbing, etc etc, it will just be easier to make the 16psi. This is a basically stock 04 Rally edition S. I'm seeing how it responds to this upgrade, from here it may be nitrous, and eventually Im sure a full engine buildup. For now, this is the money I have to put into it.
