Velvet Cooper Idle oil Oil pressure 0 psi!!!!!

Hello every body,

I was wondering if somebody had any problem with the oil light on, it should come on if pressure below 3.6 psi ad idle, I am getting a 0 psi reading at idle, I have checked the pump, no scoring and it looks OK, rod bearings and main bearings are OK, the only part I am not sure is the filter base, it has 3 oil passages with 3 springs and valves.
As the manual says the pressure at 3000 rpms should be 75 psi which is correct.

Any ideas, I was going to order a new pump and oil filter base, but wanted to know if any body had this problem.

Thank and regards,

Felipe Acebedo

I assume you checked the oil pressure with the engine hot. If so, 75psi at 3000rpm is good, so check the simple things:
Oil level is correct.
Oil filter is not clogged. - Change oil filter for new one?

If oil and filter are OK, it could be a jammed bypass valve in the filter base.

After that it could be anything, from a loose oil pickup pipe to an internal leak.

Thank you for your response, I did check pressure from start cold and in and with normal driving temperature , i bought a gauge that reads on 1psi increments and pressure is 3 psi, I believe the switch closes from 3.6 psi.
I checked the filter and it is ok, the pick up is clean , tight and o ring ok, removed the fileter base and all 3 valves and springs are clean and they move free, but hard to knoe at wich pressure they open or close and also i do not have an oil circulation diagram.
The bearings and pump are not scored or scrtached. we are using 5w-40 Castrol oil syntec, oil level ok.
The wiring for the sensor also checked, I know have another mini one with the same problem, but as idle raises above 800 it turns off the light switch (on both cars).
Now I have a cooper S, I am checking everythings as they have the same oil pump base and pump.

Thank you for your help, I f you know anything let me know.

Regards,

Talking Finally 0 psi oil pressure at idle solved!!

To all members,
Finally after calling and taking over the phone to 2 us dealers, I got a response, Firstable we have to replace the oil sooner than the service indicator tell us!!!
The oi filter canister or box (comes complte with filter, cover, gasket, pressure switch and by pass valves).
The by pass valves tend the get stuck, and this was giving us the problem with the oil pressure at idle.

Thank you very much!!!!

Glad it's ok. If you really were getting 0psi at idle you would have had a dead engine quite quickly.
The bypass valve probably routes around the pressure switch. Nice to know.
