Well, summer is here so I thought I'd try something.


Wrapped the inake tube in thermal tape. While I was playing I took off 1 snoot clamp , removed the casting lines , polished it up and painted the recess black. Worth the effort?

I like the one on the right, the polished one. It really ties in with the IC and SC inlet (exlet? whatever it is!).

It doesn't show too well since it was late when I finished but the oe on the left that is black between the ribs is the polished one.

Thanks. I have to admit I only did the top halves

It's soft aluminum so it polishes quite easily.

What you don't see is that Mr Anal filed down the parting lines on the sides of the clamps as well. Can't help it, I did that stuff for a living 30 years ago and it's stuck with me ever since.
Once I got set up and had if figured out it took may 15 minutes each. The first one took about an hour though


PS: Yes I will end up doing the bottoms since it'll drive me nuts if I don't.. Sad but true.

We've had this conversation before .... as I always say, its the little details that make up the final product.

If you find that the heat tape on the intake tube works (you could test this *very* cheaply, just use a standard computer temp measuring probe/device run back into the cabin...), you could probarbly hunt around and find some larger stuff that might look better.

I thought about the 4" tape but it was quite a bit more. The unusual contours of the tube made doing a nice spiral wrap friggin impossible. 20/20 hindsight, I should have bought the 4". I could have segmented the wrap instead of trying the spiral.

I was playing around tonight and did do some quick temp measurements.
I was removing all the intake bits and when I pulled the intake to TB tube I placed a probe on the outside of the tube and then the inside. While things were quite hot ~120º range the outside of the tube was warmer than the inside by about 8º. This was 10-15 minutes after shutoff.
Not more than a few minutes later the temps had reversed. Heat soak doing it's thing.

Right now I have my temp probes est up one btween the valve cover and intake and one inside the intake box between the filter and sidewall closest to the other probe.

I'll figure out a way to do running temps checks in the tube....I hope.

I was thinking those flat probes that you can use in PC's , simply squeezed into the inside of the tube .

you can get stick on temp decals which change colour when a certain temp is reached, available in different temps just stick em on,we do a heat tubeing in reflective outer with various diameters to cover pipes and tubes -a bit easier and tidier than wrapping ,although you have to take one end of pipe off,also a heat reflective mat 1mx1m for use in the engine bay

I don't think it will really do much, a really good samco induction line or an alta one is good to hold hot temp out, but i guess the wrap would help a bit, its really down too the looks or 1 degree less....i would go for looks on that part

Fair play with using the probs, i hope you can get them to work but i must also say that when you drive fairly fast and touch your air filter and intercooler top r/h side strait away its quite cold anyway, but from then on it does become a heat sink

oh the other thing is remove the Knock sensor plug clamp and put it between the intercooler and boss of the inlet manifold, then when you tighten the bolt it won't turn the bracket and the plug/bracket will look better strait !

Looks good tho Obe, fair shout on the clean engine bay, look better without the wrap though, imo off course

Fixed the knock sensor already

There's an Alta hose under there. We had 3" of rain in the last 2 days so I have/t played much. Weekend coming though .

I did install new polished stainless IC clamp bolts though. Pics coming.

Like I said, the wrap ain't pretty

Maybe the shiny bolts will help

Been doing it forever.

Used to drive a ratty Chevy pickup with a very strong drivetrain. $1200 truck with a $4K motor
I'd pop the hood and there was all kinds of polished stailess under the hood. ARP makes very nice kit for many motors.
It'd get some double takes I have to tell you.

Tehehe . Just stuck my IC boots on yesterday (finally), pics in the gallary, did not have time for polishing and painting.... although with the battle I've had with getting the bottom left clamps in properly at times I might have to either a) only polish visable bits of the bottom while its on the car or b) get some different injectors so I can lose the spacer.

Anyone selling some JCW injectors .
