It won't NEED to be, but it would definitely benefit from it

What Mark said.

I have a 53 plate (04) cooper with PlayMINI Exhaust and a Pipercross Viper induction kit. I ran this with the standard ECU for a good while. Then I put the MTH Remap on. I reckon once I've thrashed out the car for a but on country lanes and had the ECU auto adjust (it adjusts based on your style of driving.. auto adjusts to deliver a lot more power and torque in the low RPM range if you rev quite a lot in the high range for a good 20 miles), I'm pulling about 135Bhp which is a significant difference to the stock 115.

No. however to get the most increase in power from your bits you could do with one, otherwise you have fitted them and won't see that much benifit...just some that the stock ECU can adjust for.

It will perform far better with one. Not only as the map increases BHP anyhow but because the remap can be tuned for your specific mods to make the most out of increased air flow and exhaust flows. A remap can be the difference betwen seeing 2 bhp from an induction kit and 10 bhp sometimes.

Cool upgrade

Im looking to spend around £2000 on my 53 cooper s 210 works and after reading topics on this subject im still confused:confused. My works has standard suspension and brakes and runs on 17S Spokes, can anyone advise on the most effective upgrade for that amount of money thanks

Hmmm for that kind of money, you'd get a standard S from 170 to 225Bhp with a Stage 3 Tuning kit from here: http://www.minispeed.co.uk/new_mini/...coopers-stage3

As it's works already, you may be throwing money at it and not getting much more out of it. The Works kit is already a tuning kit. I think you may end up taking most of your works kit off (which was what... £3.5k?) and replacing with similar kit for a 15 bhp increase.

NOW, you could De-JCW your entire S and sell the kit, then take it to Roland at GTT. For £1600, he would get your around 220Bhp and for probably more money.. up to the 2K, you may get 240 - 245Bhp out of it.

I think with regards to S's, others would be MUCH more qualified than I.

In fact, everything I said above my be complete and utter codswallop .. I hope not.. and if indeed it is, you S people, please be kind to me.. hehe
