Offline | Still be interested to see your progress with this one, just hope that the costs don't escalate to make it unviable. . . but good luck, I've been waiting a couple of years to see if anyone would actually get it together to do this. There has been talk of Turbo kits for ages and then the usual "will the gearbox, etc stand up to it" stuff. Guess you're confident everything wil be ok!! How high maintenance do you reckon the setup will be? Still usable everyday? |

Offline | Engine swap? Isn't it a better idea to wait for the new engine? The new engine has BMW's Valve tronic, so it doesn't have throtle bodies. Makes it a lot easyer to make an airbox. However valvetronic is limmited to a max rpm of I believe 7000rmp. The new engine will also be a lot better quality, since it is develloped by BMW and produced together with PSA. So it needs to be a very good engine, since a lot of people will by a car with this engine. Another advantage is double vanos, it will also be fitted to the new engine. So what I'm trying to say is, maybee it is more interesting to make an engine swap and upgrade the new engine? Thatway you'll have a performace kit straight away for the new mini one/cooper drivers. By the way, I like your idea of a high performace kit for the one and cooper. And I'll be very interested in it in the near future (once I have my own Mini). We have a Mini Cooper at home, but it's my parents car though they bought it for my sister and me. They don't agree on tuning it, fortunetly when we bought it it already had a pipercross powerfilter . There's nothing like (the sound of) an n/a engine. |

Offline | will engine need forged internals? if so why not go with a turbo? im sure you have already thought of this and decided its a bad idea, my question is why? i have been thinking of a turbo kit but 185bhp from an na engine sounds very interesting indeed!!! i may need to talk to the bank manager! :-) |

Offline | BUMP! Still no news? Reading all the other posts about adding turbos and superchargers etc, the general consenesus seems to be this isn't likely to be cost effective. Hope you uys can prove me wrong!! ![]() |

Offline | I think modding the intake manifold will make a significant improvement, and shouldn't cost to mutch. With 2 throttle boddy's, instead of 4, one for cylinder 2 and 3 and one for cylinder 1 and four. Each their own (piper cross) power filter. If there's space, and I think there is, maybe it's possible to run the intake manifold over the engine, instead of between the engine and the radiator. The filters should bee in an airbox, which is attached to the firewall, which is opened up for fresh air and increased sound. |

Offline | yes 2 throttle bodies would also work better than stock, the 4 TBs has been done before and work really well ,the main cost is not in the TBs / manifold/ filter but in the engine internals/gearbox and having to replace head/manifold/cam/ exhaust to use the benefit of the 4 TBs.it all adds up cost wise and not likely to be a common thing for road use , untill prices drop on the older cars and warranty worries are a thing of the past |

Offline | Yes those warrenty's..... But you know what, I don't care about warrenty's, if something brake's down I'll just have to fix it myself. And it may cost me a lot of money in the worst case. If you take good care of you're car I don't think you'll ever need the warrenty. I'm not gonna let a warrenty spoil my fun I know I'm going to do all maintenace myself, and take appart and moddify the whole car. When I finally have my own Mini that is ![]() |
