Offline | I recently had to buy a gear box for my S as the piece of dried out dodo company that makes the MINI has, I guess, decided that they do not repair and or sell parts for transmissions. I googled "used car parts" found a site that takes your requirement and posts it to a whole lot of breakers throughout europe and they send you e mails. Got like four e mails back, took the best deal and went to Flanders to get my box. You might want to try the same in the UK Hope this helps |

Offline | the midlands box can be refurbished as MINI sell parts for this - it is only the Getrag box that is a singleitem. - could it be the sycnhromesh that is goosed? I recently got my cooper midlands box refurbished at 80k miles - the main thrust bearing had gone - the actual refurb cost £290 for parts & labour at an independent (& recommended specialist gearbox company) and £300 labour to remove & refit the box at my local tame, independant garage. In general my mechanic advised against sourcing another gearbox, and refurbing if possible - In his experience - gearboxes from breakers can be not what described and things such as gear ratios may not match - in general, for a similar cost of a breaker box of unknown provinance, you could get your own one refurbed to an as new standard. That been said, i think there shoild be no probs getting a cooper or one box fitted to our car, despite the gear ratio differences - fitting an S box may be a different matter as it is geared for the different torque & power delivery of the S engine, therefore may not suit the chipped one delivery. i guess you could enf up with a flat spot somewhere unintended.
