Arrow petrol light question

on my mini one im getting roughly 200 miles out of £30 and thats with a bluefin! but my question is, i normally fill up when it gets low and the red petrol light on the petrol gauge is on, but i never let the needle actually touch the light, is there a second low petrol light that comes on to actually tell you your low on petrol? cos if so i aint ever seen it and i must be filling up far too early?

I am sure the light gets brighter as the fuel gets lower, unless its my dodgy eyesight. I tend to fill up as soon as the needle hits the light but I am sure I was driving to work on fumes last week. I usually get about 270 miles on a full tank in my MCS.

If you've got the trip computer it will tell you how many miles you have left in the tank (based on what MPG the car is doing)

Mine generally comes on with 50miles(ish) left, and I know if need be I can let it go all the way down to single figures and still be going I once got stuck and for the range on the trip computer it said ---

There is no second light which comes on just that 1

The light comes on when you get down to about 8 litres left (so yeah, about 50 miles range). Once it does come on though it's a good idea to top up ASAP, as running too low on juice can put extra strain on the fuel pump. Once you get to the 'running on fumes' stage you can probably hear it struggling

I have driven 20 miles/30km when the dotted line was already in the trip computer display (so < 0 km calculated left), the needle than is almost below the red light. Still I got 1 liter left. Of course I didn't floor it those last 20 miles

yup thats right. Mine was certainly struggling. I think I just got to the petrol station on time. I wont be running it that low again.

Sorry, but I don't believe a word of that..

I never fill up till the needle is down over the red light, I've had it tucked down below it before now.

Can't be arsed to get out the car till it really needs it.

I thought the tank was 50 litres, but I've had about 52 in so far, mind you, that's probably just the fuel station ripping us off with inaccurate pumps.............

Not a student are you? I'm like that

I've never had over 50 litres in the tank before but once I really dragged out as much I could and when I filled up I got 49.95 litres actually running on fumes....

Clarkson's petrol station challenge. When you're nearly empty, bypass the nearest petrol station and see if you can get to the next one without refilling. If you cant..you probably have a long walk to the next one. Add a bit of excitement to your life. I'm a student too and boy i see that red petrol light on often :P

I guess we can simply refer to it as the "Student light" from this point then

Ahh the good old petrol light... when developing the convertible I'm surprised nobody realised that when the sun is shining in the car, you can't read any light or display on the dash.

I could be driving along with four flat tyres, bootlid open, engine failing, no fuel and the handbrake on, and I wouldn't be able to see any of the warning lights!!

I spent about 3 weeks with it on once... I just can't bring myself to part with £50 at once. At the end of 5 £10 fill ups I've spent the same money, it's just student mentality I suppose.
