A few cheap tweaks?

I am now the proud owner of a Cooper S. I have had a few cars in my time, but never have I had such a fun car to drive. I was torn between a cooper S and a Lotus Elise. Practicallity made me pick the Mini and after a few weeks of driving it I am sure I made the right choice.

I am now wondering what to do to give it a little more grunt. I really dont want to go too mad and ruin any warranty but a few more hp would be nice.

In your experience what would be the best tweaks to carry out first? I am thinking perhaps an induction kit to start off (K&N I guess). Would this void my warranty/TLC?

Any advice appreciated.

it won't "void" your warranty, although if you suffer any malfunctions related to the kit or something which the kit could cause it'd be fixed out of your pocket, not BMW's.

JCW Products retain bmw warranty and are priced to account for that .

Although make sure you tell your insurance about any modifications as well :P

I'm running a group buy for the Alta cold air intake at the moment with Lohen, for £189.80 delivered, saving nearly £40. Last orders will be taken on Tuesday. More details (and video) in this thread: http://www.mini2.com/forum/group-buy...nterested.html

Is that better than the K&N kit? K&N is much cheaper. The 57I 57-0463 appears to be about £87.00

Don't have any experience with the K&N - I went for the Alta based on how it makes the supercharger scream like a banshee...

Try doing a search - plenty of people have expressed their opinion on the CAI, pretty much all of which has been good I think.

I think the K&N is a CAI just like the Alta.

You'll notice that K&N list a different kit for the Mini One and the Cooper, the Cooper kit being dearer of the two. Well they are IDENTICAL kits with different part numbers but you didn't hear it from me, right?

The advantage between the 57i & the Typhoon on the One/Cooper aren't very obvious. The typhoon appears similar except its a bit prettier to look at because it's anodised metal instead of plastic.

57i gives a bit more torque and a nice niose while the typhoon is good for a few more horses 3-4 as it has a second filter on the top - or so the k&n webby suggets

Last time I looked at the Cooper typhoon, it just appeared to be an anodised metal version of the 57i. Maybe they've changed them to justify the price difference?

My dealer told me that my filter would void my TLC Oh well im leaving it on anyway cause it sounds so good

Apparently it's stated in the TLC handbook that any modifications (Not MINI Approved) Will invalidate the TLC policy

Perhaps I am being a bit dumb, but I just dont see how there can be such a huge price difference between different induction kits.

http://www.lohen.co.uk/shop/products.asp?cat=54

How can the Pipercross be £98 whilst the Alta is £215. Surely there is not that much difference.

Depends on how customer Friendly and focused the dealership is....the better ones dont mind the odd mod...some turn a blind eye to more...just try not to take the you know what.

Looks like they HAVE changed it. It was hard to justify the price difference before. Still is for that matter!!!7
