Oil Catch

Hello

I would like to know if oil Catch Can is a good system and if it does not damage nothing?

Best Regards

Another good discussion can be found here

I bought mine for the "shiny factor". It does trap some oil but I do still find some in my IC. Optimally you should run 2 or clean your IC every 3-4 months.

Hello
Me one more time...
Already I read the all topic.

Is advisable the rank of oil Catch, for example mine has the kit 210 JCW and already it presents some oil with 15.000miles. Is this normal or I have some problem in the car?

The car still in guarantee, I will have some problem with dealer?

Best Regards

Do BMW do this as part of the servicing regime or is it up to us to do this to ensure max potential from our S's???!

Thanks obehave

MiniBimmer;
Oil in the IC is normal. It does hurt thermal performance of the IC.

Correct. They will not clean out the IC.

Cleaning;
My recent favorite is putting rubber gloves over the inlets and swishing the cleaner back and forth.
Brake cleaner will work, acetone works, Dawn works. You just need to make sure you rinse it well with water to neutralize any solvents.
Personally I use Castrol SuperClean cut 2:1 with water inside and out then just flush with water.If I'm not in a hurry I just stand the IC on end someplace safe and continue tinkering. If I'm in a hurry I break out my leaf blower and get the water out quickly .
Make sure you clean the IC boots while you're at it. They collect pools of oil in them. Gives you a chance to check for cracks.

Hope this helps.

I recently fitted a GTT OCC....and it appears to work very well on my car....I use a 17% reduced pulley and JCW air intake with bigger injectors....my OCC collects oil....which doesn't now go through the IC and engine.....I noticed a slight power increase...and seems to be less black round the exhaust tips.....in my opinion it makes sense....and works.

Hello
One more time thanks to help me obehave.
I find that optimum it is to clean the IC with regularity.

I have to change the pipe that connect to the IC, is making noise. According to my dealer the problem it is of the pipe.

Best Regards

Oil Catch Can Plus Breather Hose

The oil catch can is effective in preventing vented oil from contaminating the intercooler, but to keep the intercooler completely oil free you will need to vent the the other side of the cam cover as well.

Speak to Roland at GTT - he offers the oil catch can plus a breather hose which has a filter on the end which vents the other side of the cam cover not vented by the OCC. This second vent hose just drops down into the bottom of the engine bay.

For a completely oil-free IC you will need either of the following options:

(1) Two OCCs - one for each side of the cam cover; or;

(2) One OCC & a breather hose venting into the bottom of the engine bay.

Option (2) is cheaper & simpler.
