Top Speed (Problem or it is Normal)

Hello
I´m owner of a MCS JCW 2005 210Hp Kit.

My car until 180Km\h (112miles\h) is very fast; until 220Km\h (136miles\h) is more or less already cost more a little and until reaching 240Km\h (150miles\h) maximum speed costs sufficiently.

Your cars behavior the same or mine can have some problem?

Best Regards

Hello
Forgive my poor English.

My problem is if for an car with 210hp it is normal to have some difficulty in arriving at 240Km\h (150miles\h)?
The car in low rpm is very good/quick, in high rpm is slower mainly from 200Km\h (125miles\h)…

It is this normal?

Best Regards

A JCW 210 will struggle to get to 150mph

To get to 140 will take a while and any extra mph after that is a bonus

Top speed of the JCW is only 135-40 isn't it? I think the GP is only 145 or something like that...so 150mph is out of the question on a flat road. I think 150 is pretty hard to find due to the MINI not being very aerodynamic (good through the air)

I've found mine to be effortless - and quick! - all the way to 130, with no significant slowing past the 110 mark... maybe you're expecting too much?

I imagine it would have happily carried on past 130, but my private runway ran out.

OK, I understand better now thanks.

All cars struggle to achieve their top speed, and the last 10% is very difficult. Conditions have to be perfect to get to top speed, and in summer, the Works will not do top speed (145mph) due to the heat.

You need a long straight road, 135mph should be done in under 1 mile, 145mph will need another mile at least, and it will crawl to that limit.

You should wait for a cold early morning, your car should have no extra weight, your tyres should be at exact pressure, and hopefully, if you have enough road, you can get to 145mph. Any wind will cause problems....

Dont expect too much. The last 10mph is a very dangerous place to be.

I've had 147mph on the GPS 150mph on the clock.

That was on a very cool evening in spring JCW 210 + GTT Manifold + GRS Intercooler

But it did take a longtime to get there

whenever you have an anolog gauge as in the dial off the cam or whatever you'll get to a point where accuracy drops off due to spring tensions etc. a rule of thumb is after 100 mph start degrading the indicated speed . evidence is that magazines and manufacturer have given standard cooper s a top speed of 137 mph i bet if you wrung it out youd see 148 or so indicated ,which would be wrong of course .

I've been told that its not a good idea to run any of the 1.6 MINI's at high revs in 5th/6th for a sustained time as they are prone to having the engine blow. Saying that, did 130mph on a runway according to GPS without too much effort. I figure if you want a high top speed you dont buy a 1.6 car.

In the video I was in 6th gear.. and my engine can reach about 7700 rpm(8000 at the instrument) .... and I'have run the car for about 15/20 seconds...you can see and measure the seconds that occour to pass from 230 to 240 km/h.. about 4/5 seconds...
the digital instruments of the mini measures about 244 km/h..

rent the movie (worlds fastest indian ) he gets to about 165 mph relatively quickly then it takes roughly another 6 miles for the bike to get to 200 +. it's just raw power ..... and accelaration then the walllll ... then slowly more and more till finaly none left .

Before it is

I know that we all know this but.....................

Anyone attemtping to vmax their car should only do so in a safe, controlled environment, where the law allows. Even then, maximum speed should be viewed as equalling minimum safety margin.

I think top speed is pretty irrelevant in most scenarios (yeah sure it's nice to know that you own a 150mph motor or whatever, but when are you actually going to exploit it? - unless you live in Germany and like to get up very early to avoid the traffic.)

What I love about the MCS is the way it puts frowns on the faces of other track day drivers as it hangs on round the corners and accelerates cleanly up through the rev range.

Cheers

S
