Red Cooper Air filter heat shield

Hi!

New member - bought my first MINI last week. Red 2002 Cooper S, tuned by Kelleners Sport. Never had this much fun behind the wheel before .

But now I wonder - the air filter is loose where the box should be. Seems like they have just removed the stock air filter box and installed the new filter. Wouldn't this cause the engine to suck in a lot of hot air from the engine bay? I see there are some kits available, but does anyone here know if it is possible to get just a heat shield? Or maybe there's some DIY instructions out there..?

wow; that's not even as good as a typhoon which at least blows some cold air on the filter !!! you gotta get the box back . the inlet pipe could then go to the box holding your filter.

Thanks for the replies!
I don't know if there has ever been a box there since the Kellermans did their work.. Is this their solution for the air intake?
Would a stock air box have enough room for this filter? Or should I go for a brand new induction kit? Any difference in performance? Reduction is not an option

get a new kit.. plus get a new hose from inlet to new box to ensure truley cold air gets to filter . that filter may fit new kit as a good spare.

I doubt that the filter could be "jury-rigged to fit in the stock air box.

Some people just run a HAI ( K&N filter fitted directly to the throttle body) ...

Horsepower gains from induction kits aren't that great (3-9 hp)

I have now ordered a GTT cold ram induction kit, hopefully I'll get it next week! I have also ordered a new pipe from the inlet from the MINI dealer. Will I have to get a remap or is it plug and play?
I emailed Kelleners and the told me they used a BMC panel filter in the stock box. Is the GTT a much better solution? I found a print with the dyno results of the Kelleners upgrades that has been fitted to my car and it shows 208,5 hp, will I be looking at 210+ with the GTT?

Got the GTT kit today and installed it! Sounds not much different than the jr filter that was installed, but the engine seems to run smoother and it feels a bit quicker too (is it really or just my imagination? )! Plus it looks ten times cooler!
