Offline | MCS getting 05 ecu upgrade on pre 05 model I used to have a MCSc last year but unfortunately had to get rid of as a new job meant I was doing 25,000 a yeah which I didn't really fancy sticking on my Mini. Anyway now I don't have to do as many miles I am about to by a used MSC. I have found 2004 MCS but know this is pre the 170 bhp. I used to love the popping of the exhaust on my last Mini (and realise it is less pronounced on the 163 bhp version) and was wondering if anyone had managed to get their dealer to update the ecu to the 2005 model version, and if so how much it cost. I have tried to read the previous posts on here but haven't come accross any confirmed upgrades. Jez |

Offline | I wouldn't do it - the main difference is the different gear ratios, not just a software upgrade. There are better and probably easier ways to increase power, drivability and the popping if you really want.. ![]() ![]() |

Offline | Mate - I would check the build date - the MY05 revisions came in from Jul 2004. Mine is a oct 04 build - 54-plate. It has all of the MY05 updates. MY05 MINI COOPER S - DS/B - GTT OPTIMISED- THANKS FOR THE RIDE - ENTER THE R56 JCW |

Offline | Thanks for the reply T-bone but i'm certain its a 163 bhp pre-05 model, its got the different front xenons and rear lights unfortunately. I didn't realise the gear ratios changed till recently, does this mean that the upgrade wouldn't work well even if i can get a garage to do it? The only reason I don't want to go down other modifying routes is for insurance and resale really, I don't really want to tamper with it but would love to have that popping back, maybe I'll just live with it for a while and see if I think it's still missing something in a couple of months. |
