MINI TURBO. Help and Thoughts??

Been thinking of getting my One turboed. Found this kit available from autofashion. However, looking at the pictures on the website and hearing things from other people, do you think this upgrade is nonsense?? i would like to hear people's opinion as i am very serious about getting it fitted.

Here is the site.

Then select Turbo Conversion. I am considering the 200BHP stage.

I'd buy a spare gearbox or two while you're at it.

I really have no experience of the kit, but the way they sell it seems very, well, basic.

"The Turbo is a more exciting way to achieve the same power, and the optional dump valves just sound so cool.

Five gears means less gear changing. Sounds odd I know but we normally find that with powerful 6 speed cars you spend more time changing gear than accelerating!!! This slows you down."

This is what i'm worried about. It sounds like any old excuse to make their kit sound better. Another thing i noticed is that they sell a 320BHP turbo kit for the S for £4000, but the BBR kit costs £17000! How does that work???

They may be right and their kit may be genuine but I need some expert opinions before I go for it. I was worried whether the gearbox would cope too but they obviously think it is ok.

The last thing is if this kit is the ultimate turbo kit for the mini, surely it would have had more publicity if it was any good???

Just trade in and get an s. the conversion wouldnt be worth it let alone the crippling insurance.

im not a fan of this modifiying game tbh, i think it messes up the dynamics more than anything, if it is better than the original car why didnt the manufacture do that.

I seriously doubt the gearbox will be up to it, especially if you have the midland, but I doubt the getrag will be rated that highly either.

The S engine is also quite modified over the One/Cooper to take the extra power.

u'll need to uprate the internals of the one / cooper engine to cope with the turbo, also need to completly re-map the ecu rather than just a simple plug in chip none of the kits there mention this.

it'd take about 2 hours on a rolling road to map it at a cost of about £400

to be honest it does not look like a very reliable kit they are not a tuning company they are a bodyshop ( avery good one though as they did my double featured lupo gti)

have a look at whats included in the alta turbo kit and you'll see theres a lot of extra bits with their kit compared to this one

I think the idea of the turbo has gone out the window. I don't want to get rid of mine as the S would look exactly the same as it and personally, I don't think i could bring myself to sell it anyway! Never mind. Thanks for everybody's help!!

Engine: Pistons, Rods, rod bolts, crank, head, turbo, mainfold, injectors, fuel pump.
Gearbox: Getrag box with longer ratio's. (quaife gearset maybe?) Or even an M3 box.
Remap

Plus labour and many extra smaller parts needed.

If the kit dosn't include the above i wouldn't bother getting it
