Scotland Just fitted my GTT intercooler

Hello All,

Iv just fitted my GTT intercooler and my car is running like sh**t its coughing
and spluttering and the revs are going wild. one minute there below 500
and it sounds like its away to stall and the next minute the revs are going really
high without me even touching the accelerator.

What could i have done wrong?? it was just a straight swap, one intercooler for
the other so i dont understand whats up! a wee bit worried tho.

Willie

sounds like your snoot boots are leaking as there is not much else to go wrong when fitting the intercooler, you will need to check the boots are fitted correctly and the clamps tigtened up (unless your intercooler is split ,damaged and leaking)

Check the boots underneith, sounds like you've got a leak coming from one of the boots.

That's the reason Roland sells the uprated snoot boots too. Far better fitting than the standard items most of which leak slightly according to Roland even on a stock car.

It was acceptable in the 80's

Willie, the boot on the left is very hard to check. If the problem doesn't go away, i'd suggest getting what's called a mechanic's mirror, which apparently makes it easier to check. The boot on the right is easy to get your fingers around and feel if it's air tight, where as you can't really get your fingers around the underside of the left boot, unless you're a pigmy. I usually lightly run a screwdriver around the bottom to make sure that it's wrapped around the SC-IC horn

get some washing up liquid and water and cover the boots with the solution, you'll see bubbles if they're leaking

get out the old propane torch and turn it on (no flame) near all possible leaks . when your rpms go up you've found a leak.

I recommend you thoroughly clean the boots of any oil aswell so they don't slip

I fitted one of these to my mates Mini only a few weeks ago.

1st: Make sure the boots are on correctly

2nd: Give the car a good run as the ECU is not quite sure what is going on, it soon settles down and runs like a dream.

Hi Guys, the best way to check for an air leak on the stock bellows (or anywhere on the inlet side )is a blast of carb cleaner around the vacinity at idle. The high vacuum will suck the cleaner in through even the smallest of gaps with a noticable change in the idle speed . The snoot boots are easy to fit,if you use a bit of WD40 they are even easier than stock as the intercooler swings down into position and the boot just slides into position. No trapped fingers!
PS we have another 20 sets of 'GTT Snoot Boots coming in on Tuesday
Best Regards Roland GT Tuning
