WOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!!!! i am excited but more frustrated at the long weekend wait! just a quick question, ive seen a lot of milltek exhaust sound and video clips, but out of all of them could someone direct me to who has JUST the milltek catback exhuast without all the other mods, such as the filter etc etc. i need to hear the sound of just the catback so that i can come to a dicision on wheather to purchase a milltek cat back. do u have to declare the milltek cat back to the insurance company? if so how much more is one expected to pay? p.s where is the cheapest place to purchase and fit a milltek catback??? thanks very much! ![]() |

Offline | Hi, Yes it would be a good idea to mention what you intend to do to your insurers first before going ahead with any modifications. I learn't the hard way when I had an Eisenmann cat back exhaust fitted to my S some 18 months ago. I wouldn't normally have bothered with fitting an aftermarket exhaust but I wanted one purely as it would be stainless steel and less likely to corrode, wasn't bothered too much about about the sound or performance. Anyways had it fitted costing £875 and told my insurers and they wanted an extra £300 on my existing policy or they wouldn't insure me. I'am 41, no claims ever made etc etc, complete rip off. Had no choice but to cough up. Got worse then as I had nothing but trouble with the exhaust, knocking, blowing etc etc and then it did a nice job of melting the rear bumper valance as one of the boxes was resting against it. In the end I took it all off and got my BMW dealer to fit a standard exhaust back on with a new bumper trim and changed my insurers when it was due for renewal. It was interesting what the dealer said in the number of customers who return to them to take mods off their car as they caused more trouble than their worth.I know lots of peeps have gone for the Miltek, but apart from being a stainless system I don't really see any advantages unless you want a nosier system on your car, you won't get much in terms of performance, if anything at all. The standard system on the S isn't bad in it's own right and it was developed to perform with the rest of the car. Cheers |

Offline | hey penguin, thanks for the useful advice. having heard your story now i defo intend to ring up my insurers (not that i have one atm) when i plan to change to the milltek system. the only reason why im planning on changing the exhaust system is only because i dont personally like the look of the stock exhaust, and i'd prefer if the exhaust note was SLIGHTLY deeper and louder (dont care for extra performance), and for this i hear the milltek is the best option. £300!! sounds very expensive, hope thats not the case for the milltek. |

Offline | Hi, No probs, I hope what I posted didn't put you off, just saying from experience. If you have yet to get your MINI insured then go for one thats mod friendly, don't go for the mainstream as they won't be interested in your mods or they will want to ripp you off with extortionate premiums. Have you tried badgering your dealer for a Works exhaust? it will provide the sound your looking for without being too loud, IMHO would be better than the Miltek and if you do get any probs then your dealer can sort them out under warranty. Cheers |
