Offline | The S will get the hottest due to the SC being under the hood. Thats also why the S needs to have a CAI instead of a normal filter to help inprove power, more than the Cooper or ONE does. Sorry don't know any figures though. Roland of GTT might though as I'm sure he runs tests on intake temps so maybe he'll have some readings of ambient bay temp too???! As a matter of interest why are you asking? |

Offline | The temp underbonnet varies around the engine bay and if the car is stationary ,one of the hottest areas is over the exhaust manifold by the water tank which can get to well over 100 degrees c ,despite the heatshields,I have some engine bay temps somewhere I shall have a look for you . that is why we wrap the manifold which reduces the temp above it and sends more heat down the pipes ,and put extra temp blanket on the heatshields |

| Amiga 500 to PS3 20 Years | I've read that heat tape on the manifold is not good though as they only last a short while with the extra heat. Also as the heat can't escape from the manifold it is pushed towards the cat and reduces the cat's life too. ![]() It was acceptable in the 80's |

Offline | True the ceramic cats dont like the extra heat, the metal ones cope better, I run without a cat so not a problem, but any cat is not going to last forever, it depends on what you are using your car for and how hard you run it. it also helps to have an exhaust system that flows more freely to move the heat faster /further down the system |
