Gear Box Problem

Hi was on my home tonight when I pulled off the traffic lights put my car in 2nd gear and it just chucked it back out. Havent got a clue what was up beause I was drving normally and only had the car at about 4000rpm. It will change into every other gear including reverse but will not stay in 2nd does anyone have any idea what this maybe as its to late to ring bmw. If it is a majour problem do you think it will be covered under my warrenty?

Thanks Dan

I guessed its either the clutch needed adjustment or to be replaced. I suggest you send to bmw for a check.

If your mini is under warranty and has the Midland gearbox, get it back into BMW as many have failed, lots of chat on the fix and repair threads. My Cooper had a new one fitted at one year old and this one has a chrunchy sound shifting into 2nd at 4000 rpm and above.
Minimaniauk have a recon midland box which they claim solves the problem.Using the BMW warranty gets you a new and free gearbox that will probably fail down the road.I am out of warranty so my options are BMW goodwill which is pay the labour to have another free one installed ,mind you BMW stands for (bring money withya)or buy a Minimania box and have my outside mechanic do the work and prob end up at the same cost, what a delima, hope it works out for you.Regards Peter
