you have to bring it back to the garage as they have to reset it with a code from bmw, just changed to jcw seats last week and this is what i had to do.....

Actually that's probably a much more sensible way to do it!

about £45 is the going rate, you need to sign a document, this gets sent to MINI, they issue the dealer with the code which remains valid for 48hrs and they upload it, not a huge job, but they will still charge you for it

The only problem I have is knowing which one to drive?

I thought the leads just plugged into resistors so the system thinks the airbag is connected. This is how mine are fitted???

The only thing thing that happens is if you turn the ignition on before you connect the resistors the airbag warning light lights and can only be turned off by your dealer.

It was acceptable in the 80's

You would of had to have unplugged the wires to remove your old seat from the car then the wires plug into the connector under the JCW seat as this has the resistor in it.

However if at anytime whilst the connector was unplugged the ignition was switched on the airbag light will light. Even if you plug the connector in later it will remain lit and can only be reset by a BMW/MINI dealer.

It was acceptable in the 80's

Hope you get on OK and they don't try and charge too much to reset the light.
