My Alta CAI kit sounds like a star wars x-wing fighter?

Just fitted my Alta CAI kit and recon when you open the throttle it sounds like one of the x-wing fighters off star wars.Does this sound familier.?
Also another thing i wanted to check with you fellow cooper s owners is ive noticed that my car which has a GRS intercooler seems to have quite a loud sucking noise coming from the intercooler which is realy noticable when you pop the bonnet and stand infront of the engine. This sound was quite distinct before i fitted the CAI kit and seems to smooth out when you lift from idle, but then the CAI comes into action..Basicaly as i have no cooper s to compair with i wounderd if they sound quite sucky on tick over any way.PLus mine is quite modded.about 240 bhp.

The X-Wing sound your hearing is supercharger whine in full effect!!.

Reference the sucking/whooshing sound - the ALTA and most open CAI have this sound. However if you had it before the CAi installation its worthwhile checking you don't have any leaks.

Where abouts are you in the UK?

ref my charger

Hi mate,im in Bristol.my charger didnt sound like an x-wing fighter before the alta cai,now it realy wines when you pull hard but on tick over if you lift the bonnet theres a distinct noise that sounds abit like the sound you get from holding a shell to your ear only alot louder and more of a sucky sound, then if you raise the reves its smooths out and you hear more from the CAI.IM hoping this sound at tickover is just the air serculating through the intercooler from the charger but as ive no car to compare to its hard.but as for leaks everything seems tight with no notiable leaks if you stick your hand around the seals etc.and it seems to pull well.

I was hoping you would have been a bit closer - would have come out meet you to give you a car to compare too. - Looks like it'll be a bright day so the drive would have been nice.

TBH - I think that the sounds you are hearing are all normal and sound like the noises I had when I ran an ALTA for a shortwhile.

Ok mate ,but do you get a sort of distinct air type gushing noise from the intercooler at tickover,i guess its probably the air pasing through it.

I have noticed that noise on my standard S (with alta) lately, I wasnt sure if it was something that I had never noticed before or a problem that had only just started. Glad to hear of someone else that has noticed it

Can't remember if it was there on just idle tickover(No Throttle Input) - the whooshing was there with any throttle movement.

found where the air noise is coming from,it appears that a vacume pipe must be loose that attatches on the end of the fuel rail and then goes to the front of the engine some where.Im about to take the intercooler off and see where its come loose from.

Ah - yep - i was gonna ask about this earlier - make sure that you have connect the pcv(vacum) hose back up to the intake hose - tbh if this had not been done you may have had a warning light - but if its not on tight enough - you'll get no light - but you would get a noise much like you are describing. - As ever if you truly are worried - just rectrace your steps and check and re-check everything you toughed again.

Ive just taken the intercooler off and the thin vacume plastic pipe that has a rubber conector at each end was only connected to the fuel rail end.the other end as far as i can make out should connect to the bottom of a valve type looking thing.which is situated in the centre between the fuel rail and the injectors. Its the only thing i could see that looked as if it should have the vacume pipe on it.Ive put all the intercooler back and tightened everything and started the car and its not got that air leaking noise anymore so i guess that was the correct thing to join the loose pipe to.
