Change settings JCW gear shift light???

Hi

I installed a JCW gear shift light today at a MINI dealer.

In the PDF file ( JCW Shift Indicator Install PDF) I can see:
"The engine speed threshold can be set between 3500 rpm and 7250 rpm in steps of 250 rpm."

My question is:

How can I change this?? Do I have to remove the whole shift light to able to change the settings?

Hope anyone can help me

Thanks

Maaij

I was under the impression that the JCW shift light was preconfigured at least it was from JCW themselves. Unsure whether it has any adjustment but I guess if it's in the PDF it must do.

It was acceptable in the 80's

The engine speed threshold is the speed at which the shift light starts flashing (after all lights have lit up). This threshold can be set by DIP switches on the bottom of the shift light--as described in the install guide. To access these DIP switches, you will have to remove the shift light from the dash.

Another way to think of it--the first light on the shift light comes on when you reach 10% of the threshold. The second light comes on at 20%. Third at 30%...and so on. By the time you reach 100%, all lights are on and they start flashing.

its not difficult to do, set it at peak torque for revs against the dyno curve for optimum performance, you'll need a rolling road or a while playing on real roads to get it just right. I've found anywhere between 4 and 5,000 rpm about right for comfortable driving thats around 80% of the available power band, anything higher gets a bit wild at times, of course you don't have to obey the shift lights anyway.
