Offline | I am also very interested in a chip upgrade for my MINI Cooper. Also, what affect this modification may have on the BMW/MINI warranty? Which of the "chip" developers will be covered and which ones won't be covered and what would be gained by each of the different chip makers? There are a whole lot of questions that need to be asked when one is about to undertake such an upgrade.![]() "We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail..." -- President George W. Offline | Chips? We don't need no stinkin' chips! Lets see some dyno runs of before and after re-chipping. Full details about any and all modifications made between runs. Also temperature, humidity, and pressure for each run. Similar dyno information on airfilter/intake systems, and exhaust systems. Preferably tested one at a time and then as complete packages(chip, intake, and exhaust). This would allow us to see what each part adds and then how they work together. Some of the early results of the exhaust changes showed that the aftermarket "Hi-performance" systems producted LESS horsepower than the stock system. Even though the sound was far superior, or so I am lead to believe. ![]() Motor on, Dudes and Dudettes!!! '06 MCS SB/S '02 MCS DS/W (retired) |

Offline | There is a real problem with claims of HP increases as if you buy a chip from one place and an exhuast from another and a air filter from a third place you may well find that your boost is less than half the claim. Reason being this, Most mapping is based on the base model and not on what you might later add. Chipping should be done last. how can you map an ECU to take advantage of an exhaust until you know it's characteristics? or for that matter how it will respond to a free flowing filter? Really chipping claims are hard to judge as each will have its strengths and weaknesses. My only suggestion is chip last or chip only, otherwise you may end up with a very sick engine, and if you chip last you can actually see the increase to your specific car and most can be adjusted to suit. getting a full kit ala WORKS, or any other companies full kit would be a good way of being sure all parts are designed to match one another, for both performance and emission regulations. Sadly it's hard to find a company that doesn't have the "whilst maintianing full efficiency" attitude. Personally I'll sacrifice that for better performance any day ![]() .:MINI:. 200 BHP + warranty be damned! |

| MINI2 Irregular | Which mods/order of mods most effective? If, for example, you wanted to go about piecemealing upgrades, what would be the best order? Which items would get you the most bang for the buck? Seems to me intake would be first... then perhaps chip, just in terms of ease of modification... But AustraliaMiniMan you make a good point about chipping last or only.... So if it's best to go for the chip, which brand? Can anyone compare/contrast? So far I know of: Superchips JCW Digi-Tech Hamann (soon?) Dinan (soon?) GIAC (soon?) others? |
