Offline | JCW SK Filter v JCW Cone Open Air Filter Whats the difference between the Air Filter used in the Cooper Sound Kit and the Cone Air Filter kit available one the John Cooper website? I've noticed that garages will sell the Filter from the Sound Kit for £200+ and the the Cone Air Filter is only £115 on the John Cooper Website. So whats the difference? I have also been considering the Pipercross Viper Induction kit, How would the JCW kits compare to the Viper. I may wait to change Insurance companies before i start tinkering seeing as Admiral will charge for mods but only pay out on a standard car, so would the simple £33 pipercross filter from the Lohen site give any benefits, or should i just wait? |

| Amiga 500 to PS3 20 Years | The JCM one is better Up until recently the sound kit filter was the motorsport filter. Both were identical and made by Pipercross. Unsure who the new JCM one is made by as it appears to be cotton gauze and suspiciously like K&N. Cotton gauze is supposed to flow better and the ribbed design increases surface area and the ability to draw air apparently. ![]() It was acceptable in the 80's |

| Amiga 500 to PS3 20 Years | Yes the new JCM one looks to be an improvement over the old one. I've just noticed that the sound kit must've changed at some point and so I'm probably giving you the incorrect information. The soundkit filter now looks to be an enclosed unit so these open filters will be a lot better. Offline | Got a picture of that New JCM Filter? I'm trying to get hold of one and want to see what it should look like. * * * * * NeuroBeaker Proud owner of "Zeus" (a 'slightly modified' 2004 Mini ONE). |

| Amiga 500 to PS3 20 Years | Looks like where ever I linked to before (probably the John Cooper Works website when they were still open) has now gone. These products were only available from JCW themselves. Now it's gone you wont be able to get them anymore. The JCW motorsport parts and parts for the original Cooper Works were never carried by BMW. Try the MINI Motorsport Centre though as it's run by Tony Franks the former Chief Engineer for JCW and they are the official parts supplier for the MINI Challenge. Offline | Thanks guys, Serby pointed me in the direction of Tony Franks too - I previously was blown away by the sound of Serby's car (click here for link to videos). Do you think the new JCM510 (Motorsport Open Air Cone) will be as pleasingly noisy as the old one? As what I'm really after is a kit that will make my car sound as awesome as Serby's did - achieved through induction roar rather than a loud exhaust. All the best, Andrew. * * * * * NeuroBeaker Proud owner of "Zeus" (a 'slightly modified' 2004 Mini ONE). |

| Amiga 500 to PS3 20 Years | I noticed that you mentioned in the post you linked to about not being mislead by the Pipercross badge on the car. The JCW Motorsport filter was actually made by Pipercross believe it or not. It was Tony Franks himself who let me into this little secret when they were fitting mine. My claim to fame is that my old car was the first road car to have that filter. In fact mine was the first Works BMW MINI on the road full stop! ![]() It was acceptable in the 80's |
