Offline | It would be nice if they provided before-and-after torque and horsepower plots to see how "peaky" the chipped engine is. Also, does anyone know whether it's difficult to remove the ECU? 2005 Toyota Prius 2004 Porsche 911 Carrera (996/2) formerly EB/W Mini Cooper S [01 Mar 2002 build date] |

Offline | ... And equally important ... what does this do to your warranty? My "guess" is that if there is a mechanical failure that is (directly or indirectly) attributable to the chip, then BMW/MINI and the dealer will find a way to refuse warranty coverage. On the other hand, if such a failure should occur, the question then is, "... can the ECU be reprogrammed back to factory specs and then reinstalled in the car before a warranty claim is made?" Hopefully, that is the case. However, when you consider the "claimed" 25hp increase with the chip and the "claimed" 5-10hp increase with their new Cooper S air intake, it might just be possible to get real close to 200hp for about $1,000.00. Who knows? But it's probably worth watching. Offline | I won't believe it until I see a before and after dyno chart and hear from one or more people here who have tried it and liked it. Personally, I am waiting for Garrett to produce a chip GIAC SITE. I understand a chip is in progress - first for the MC and then for the MCS. Offline | GIAC chip The GIAC chip is indeed in progress. I spoke with Andrew from GIAC yesterday, and unfortunately they have another project on the front burner for the moment. This pushes back the Cooper and Cooper S chip another 4-6 weeks (we provided them the code for both cars months ago). They actually have the chip programmed but have to manufacture a new encrypter/cradle for the Siemens box. Once we have the chip we will dyno it and publish REAL dyno numbers. Be weary of claims of huge gains in power: They're probably not true. |

Offline | If they havent tested the chip yet, how do they claim 25mp increase? I am real interested in seeing these dyno charts for the chip and intake. Seems a little too good to be true, IMO. Mini S |

| MINI2 Regular | Without the addition of a pulley to the mix, I highly doubt that there is an untapped 25hp in the Cooper S engine. Keep in mind that this engine is already making more than 100hp/L and the only way to up the boost would be to spin the charger faster. I can understand turbo cars that have 25hp chips since they may have electronically controlled wastegates but on a supercharged car this would be tough at best. I would like to see a comprehensive power upgrade package consisting of a chip, pulley, injectors and exhaust system. |

Offline | I'm sure he's a dependable fellow and all and their stuff looks good so far. But until the dyno sheets are shown it's hard to take someone's word for it - especially when we're talking well in excess of $500 for the S...
